The next morning, I woke up and Jacob was gone. I couldn't remember how the movie had ended, so I must have fallen asleep, despite him picking an action movie. I got up and went to the bathroom to get dressed. I then went to knock on the door to the room where Jacob was staying. No one answered so I gently opened the door. The bed was maid neatly, and Jacob was not there. I turned around and walked towards the stair. At the top of the staircase, I could smell that mom was making breakfast. On my way down the stairs, I could hear mom talking with Jacob.
«I have to say that I am very grateful that Josefine has made a friend in school. I guess you have noticed that she isn't that skilled at making new friends». I sighed. Of course, mom had to talk to Jacob about it. That was just to like her. It wasn't like Jacob didn't know it, but it didn't make me feel better to hear her say it out loud.
«I am grateful for having her as a friend. I don't really look at it like that. She is so comfortable being herself that she doesn't really need to pretend to be anyone else. » Wow. Jacobs respond was heart worming. A smile spread across my face. It made me very grateful that he saw it like that.
«That's very nice of you to say. I only see what she posts on social media, she doesn't really talk to me that much anymore.
«Don't take it personally. I think she just wants to be independent; you know. And Matt looks after her. » Jacob really did have a way with my mother. It seemed like he knew exactly what to say. I guess it help to be an only child with a dad who works away. He is very close with his mother. Me on the other hand, hardly ever says the right things when I need to.
«Do you guys spend a lot of time together? »
«Every day, for the most part. Sometimes it is only to study together.
«I can see that my daughter has grown very fond of you. »
I then reached the bottom of the stairs and walked around the corner to the kitchen. There he was sitting at the kitchen table drinking coffee, and mom was scrambling egg at the stove.
«Morning» I said as I walked in.
«Good morning Josefine» My mom replied practically singing and turned around.
«Morning Jo» Jacob answered and smiled. He poured a cup of coffee to me, and I sat down next to him.
«Have you been up long? »
«No, just about an hour. You know I always wake up before you. Even when I stay up later than you. »
«So, he has been helping me fix breakfast and set the table. » Mom smiled towards Jacob and then checked her watch. «Speaking of breakfast, it is ready. Could you go upstairs and get you brother. » She gave me her smile that showed me that it really wasn't a request.
«Okey fine, but you know he was probably out late last night, so I will most likely have to wake him up.
«He knows we eat breakfast together as a family in the holidays. » Mom stated. Not really responding to my statement.
«Fine» I responded and jumped off the bar chair. «Where's dad? »
«He is out running an errand. He will be back any second». Now hurry up to you brother before the eggs get dry. »
I sighed and turned around, walking back upstairs. I walked towards Matt's room and knocked. You always should knock on Matt's door. You never know what or who he is doing. I learned that the hard way.
