The sneaking around

Some days had gone since I had seen Liam. We had ended the night not too late, because I didn't want to risk Matt walking in on us. There were no explaining or lying my way out of what he had seen then. Liam and I tangled up in each other. Laying in his bed kissing and watching a movie. It would have been obvious. Luckily for me I left before Matt came back. Ella was home so I had to tell her about my evening. She did after all help me, so it was the least I could do. It did really feel nice to have a girl to talk to about somethings. I really didn't know how it would be to talk to Jacob about Liam. Normally I felt like we can discuss everything with no judgement, but I'm not sure about this. I knew he didn't really like him, but most of that was because of Matt. My mother wasn't an option either. She could never keep anything to herself. If I talked to her, she would tell the entire family, including Matt.

The weekend was approaching but tonight I was meeting Liam. We had texted the past few days and found a spot a little farther from campus. As I arrived at the coffee house, I saw that Liam hadn't arrived yet, so I found us a booth in the back. That way we got some privacy instead of having to sit by the window. I actually felt calmer this time meeting Liam. The nerves I had felt before wasn't present. Then the doorbell pinged, and I raised my head to look. There he was approaching me, and the butterflies evoke in my stomach. My heart skipped a beat. Liam smiled as he saw me and sat down across from me.

«Hey» He said in his low raspy voice. The tree letter word was enough to send shivers down my spine.

«Hi» I answered. Trying to act as calm and collected as possible.

«Have you already ordered? »

«No, I was waiting for you» I smiled.

«Great. It looks like we have to order by the counter. What do you want? I'll get it»

«Just a cappuccino, thanks» Liam smiled. He then walked to the counter to order. It took a couple of minutes. As he waited in line and then waited to get our order, I tried to calm myself. Taking deep breaths. It really wasn't helping that I thought about how we had kissed in his bed the other day, or that I wanted to kiss him. My thoughts drifted off and I stared distant into the air.

«Here you go» Liam placed a tray in front of me. My mind snapped back to reality. It had two coffee cups, and two different kinds of cupcakes. One looked like vanilla and the other on was chocolate.

«Wow, you really didn't have to» I said surprised.

«I know, but I wanted to» He smiled as he sat down. «I didn't know what you liked, so I got one of each and you can choose the one you like. That is if you like any of them. Or maybe I should have asked first. » Liam added the last sentence hastily and a flash of insecurity showed. It helped to see that he was on shaky ground as well. I reached across the table and grabbed his hand. Looking in his eye.

«It's perfect. » We smiled at each other. Then I grabbed the plate with the vanilla cupcake. One can never go wrong with vanilla. My favorite flavor.

The conversation got better once we just started talking. It was great to get to know Liam better, but he wasn't really the sharing type. Besides from that we talked about regular stuff like sport, hobbies and interests. It was a bit of a bummer that he didn't like hockey, which is the sport I know best, but it is just a sport. Just as the girls Jacob have dated had asked about me, Liam asked about Jacob. More precisely how our relationship was. I explained to him, and he seemed fine with it. At least he pretended to be. I noticed that once I tried to ask a little deeper, he wasn't that interested and changed the topic. I figured he just needed some time.
