The wedding

Jacob pulled up in the driveway.

«Let the crazy being» I sighed as I got out of the car. This time it wasn't my family that I was referring to. It was the wedding. Well, of course my family was a part of it. Knowing how Jen and mom had fuzzed about every detail so far, I couldn't imagine that they toned it down days before the wedding. Jacob chuckled and turned the car engine off. We took our bags and walked towards the door. Once I opened the door, I knew I was right. There were boxes and stuff in every corner.

«Wow. You would think the wedding was going to be arranged here» I mumbled as we entered. I was a bit surprised that no one came to greet us, but they had clearly more important things to do. And besides, it's not like I needed a welcome committee. Jacob and I dropped our bags down by the stairs and walked towards the kitchen.

«Josefine! Jacob! You are just in time for lunch» Mom cheered as soon as she saw us.

«Yes, we are» I smiled pleased with myself. «I didn't think it was an option to be late» I looked at Jacob who was standing next to me. He just smiled politely.

«Where is your brother? » Mom's face of joy immediately turned stern.

            «I don't know». I shrugged my shoulders innocently.

«Josefine! » Mom looked disappointed at me. I almost got worried that she would drop the plate of food she had in her hands.

«What mom?!» I waived my hands out defensively. «Am I supposed to watch the time for my three-year older brother? The one who just graduated from college? » I crossed my arms, trying to get her to understand how ridiculous that sounded.

«You could have checked up on him before you left. You know he was at a party all night» I rolled my eyes at mom's responds. Apparently, she did not see it. Then the front door flew open.

«Matthew! » Mom put the plate on the kitchen island with a loud sound and walked past us to greet Matt.

«Hello mom. I made it in time for lunch, right? » I heard Matt say with his most innocent voice. That guy was always fishing for a compliment, and most of the time he got it.

«Of courses you did. I didn't doubt you for a second» Mom praised him.

«Unbelievable» I mumble, so that only Jacob heard. Jacob chuckled under his breath. Probably finding the whole situation humorous. I really couldn't blame him. Mom wasn't normally this neurotic, which he knew, so I guess it is just the wedding that had her on her toes. Mom rushed back to the kitchen and order all three of us to help put the food onto the dining table. Dad and Jen came from the living room and sat down at the table with us.

«How lovely to have everyone gathered again at this table». Mom practically sang while she started filling up her plate. Everyone else just mumbled in agreement. Too busy doing something with our hunger to speak.

«So, we have a lot of things to do before the big day» Mom stated after we all had had a chance to fill our bellies a little. I didn't feel the need to respond to that, seeing I felt it was obvious. None of the others around the table seemed to feel the urge either. «What is it we have to do today? » Mom asked Jen.

«We have to check up on the venue, the cake, the flowers and finish the party favors. »

«I can take the cake» I jumped in, trying to get the task I wanted the most. Thinking I could take Jacob with me and eat some cake.
