Chapter Twenty One; 'Care to explain?'
Luke managed to get himself out of bed the next morning, feeling sluggish and ill he got himself dressed and headed to college, his mother was out of sight and he was happy about that, he was sick of having to face her questions about Ashton all the time, question's he couldn't answer. It was a tedious walk and for some reason it seemed longer than usual, he checked his phone for the millionth time that morning, still nothing from Ashton, he stuck his phone back in his pocket and pushed through the doors of the college down the halls to his locker, he slumped his head inside it almost falling asleep and was startled by the bell, he checked his phone and realised he'd dozed off for half an hour. He rushed to sort his books and get to English on time, he stumbled into class and everyone stared at him, "Nice of you to join us, Mr.Hemmings" Ashton said with an eyebrow raised, Luke frowned, it was rare for Ashton to call him Mr.Hemmings now, he called all his students by their first name. He took his seat and glanced at the board, as usual it was stuff for the exams and assignments, he rolled his eyes and huffed, he was bored of college, bored of class, bored of 'Mr.Irwin'. He managed to get through the class without falling asleep, his interest in his classes had dropped drastically since he started dating Ashton, all he wanted to do was focus on his relationship, he knew his education was important and vital to his future, but in his mind, he didn't have a future without Ashton.
The lessons dragged and eventually the lunch bell rang, he headed out of class with the boys and went to lunch. "Mr.Hemmings, can I see you a second?" Ashton said, Luke turned around in his chair and then back across the lunch table at Liam and Louis, both had huge grins on their faces,
"Sure" Luke mumbled, he followed Ashton down the corridor and into his classroom,
"We're in trouble" Ashton said quickly shutting the door,
"Trouble? What do you mean?" Luke's breathing went funny, his stomach flipped and nerves kicked in,
"I was in the staff room this morning, and the teachers were talking about the new CCTV cameras, and I got all worried and it turns out the headteacher put cameras all around the college, I don't think there are any around this class but we gotta be really careful now"
"You freaked me out! I thought we'd gotten caught or something Jesus Christ Ashton" Luke said sitting on one of the desks,
"I'm sorry" Ashton said walking over to Luke and lifting his chin with his finger, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to worry you" he kissed Luke's forehead and then pulled him in for a hug,
"It's okay" Luke whispered, the bell rang and Luke pulled out of the hug, "I'm gonna be late for music, bye" he rushed out of class and automatically looked at the ceiling, no cameras. Perfect.
"Luke, wakey wakey" Liam cooed in his ear, he shot up,
"G chord!" Luke shouted, Liam laughed at his outburst and handed him a piece of paper,
"You fell asleep in class, here, I think the headteacher wants to see you" Luke opened the folded paper and read the stubborn words, 'Luke Hemmings to the head's office immediately.' Punctuated with a full stop, no notes were ever punctuated unless they meant business, "Want me to come with you?" Liam asked with a smile,
"Nope, I'm good" Luke said forcing a smile back and grabbing his stuff. He walked slowly down the corridor and sat outside the headteachers office until he was told he could come in, he breathed in deep before stepping in the room, when he walked in he was greeted with stern looks from the headteacher, and a depressed looking Ashton sat in front of Mr.Carwin's desk,
"Take a seat, Mr.Hemmings" Mr.Carwin demanded as he fiddled with the television behind his desk, Luke sat next to Ashton and looked at him, Ashton looked up and gave Luke a confused look, neither of them knew why they were there, but in the same thought they knew exactly why they were there. Luke reached across and grabbed Ashton's hand, he squeezed it slightly and gave a reassuring smile, as Mr.Carwin turned around Luke pulled his hand away and brushed his hair back with his fingers, "Do you know why I called you both here?" he asked sitting at his desk, Luke shook his head and looked at Ashton,
"Is it, because he's not been paying much attention in class? I know I haven't graded all of his assignments, but it's because he hasn't handed them all to me" Ashton spoke quickly, desperately hoping that this were the right reason,
"No, Mr.Irwin, that's not the reason I called you both here, although that is something we must deal with, this is the reason you're here." he said sternly as he pushed play, on the screen behind him an image of the hallway outside Ashton's class popped up, Luke breathed out heavily, he looked at the time stamp on the screen and realised this was the footage from last night,
"Oh.." he whispered, just loud enough for Ashton to hear, but not his headteacher. The three of them watched as a hooded figure walked across to the lockers where Luke was stood, they watched as the person got close, and watched the two talking, they watched as Luke switched them and pushed the person against the lockers, pinning him there and kissing him, and they watched as he backed away and the person knocked his hood off his head. Mr.Carwin paused the screen, Luke and Ashton stared wide-eyed at the paused image of Ashton's face on the screen, Ashton's mouth dropped slightly, this was the end for him, and he was scared.
"So" Mr.Carwin said turning back to them both, Ashton and Luke stared and watched as he folded his arms and lent forward, "Care to explain?"
