Chapter Twenty Eight: 'Normal Couply Stuff.'
"Morning sleepy head" Ashton said with a smile as Luke stumbled into the kitchen, he grumbled and slumped down into a chair, Ashton slid a fresh cup of coffee in front of him and Luke grasped it in his hands. After a few sips he seemed to perk up a little, "I see you're just as bad as me before my morning cup of coffee" Ashton laughed, Luke nodded and watched him do the washing up, there was something different about him but he couldn't place it, Ashton could feel Luke staring, "I don't have a shirt and tie on" Ashton said eventually, Luke was confused as to how Ashton knew that was what he was thinking, then he realised Ashton was wearing a plain black t-shirt, black skinny jeans and just socks, he'd never seen Ashton so casual this early in the morning before, usually he was just shirtless.
"So, what are we going to do today?" Luke asked finishing off his coffee, Ashton turned around and leant against the edge of the sink, drying his hands on the bottom of his shirt,
"Umm, I'm not to sure" he said as his eyebrows knitted together, "We could, go look around the farmers market or, go for a picnic, there's the woods behind the house, I used to have picnic's there all the time when I was a kid" Ashton explained, he was about to suggest something else when he noticed the odd smile on Luke's face, "What's wrong?" he asked, Luke looked at him and shook his head, "Okay? I guess we could go for a drive, see some of the sights, not that there's much to see around here, it's all fields and woods, and occasionally cows or shee-" he noticed Luke's smile again, "Why are you smiling like that? Is there something on my face?" Luke shook his head again,
"No, no there isn't, you're just so enthusiastic about this place, I love listening to you talk" Luke explained, Ashton couldn't help but feel slightly relieved, "I want to do everything you just said, everything that makes you love this place so much, I wanna see it all" Ashton smiled at Luke's interest in his life and nodded,
"Go get dressed then, we'll do normal couply stuff today" Ashton smiled, Luke nodded and got up off the chair, he skipped over to Ashton, kissed him softly, and then disappeared off upstairs, Ashton rolled his eyes at his childish boyfriend and carried on washing up.
"Luke c'mon! Are you even ready?" Ashton called up the stairs, now impatiently drumming his fingers on the banister, "Luke, let's go!" he called again, he'd been waiting for an hour but it seemed like forever. "I'm gonna leave without you!" Ashton called again as he headed towards the door, he swiped his keys from the bowl next to the door and jangled them, "I'm leaving!" he laughed, he opened the door and it's loud creak filled the house, "Bye then!" he called one last time, he heard faint footsteps on the landing,
"Wait!" Luke yelled, "I'm coming, I'm coming!" Ashton listened and watched as Luke ran down the stairs flapping his coat about behind him trying to get it on, Ashton laughed and watched as he got everything backwards, "Wait, wait, wait, I got it, I, I got got it" Luke said, Ashton helped Luke get his coat on and eventually they left.
Luke looked out the windows as they drove down empty country roads, he looked across the masses of fields at the beautiful views and sights. Ashton was right when he said there was mainly fields, and every now and again Ashton had to slow his car down to let flocks of sheep by or the odd cow finish crossing the road, "This is incredible" Luke muttered, Ashton occasionally glanced at the wonder and excitement on Luke's face, he was glad he liked it, although part of him wondered if Luke was just saying he liked it because he knew Ashton did,
"You really think so?" Ashton asked as they pulled into a small field, he watched Luke nod and then watched his eyes widen at the sight of the farmers market, "Shall we go take a look?" Ashton asked as he parked, Luke nodded and jumped out of the car, he ran around to Ashton's side, waited until Ashton locked the car, looked around and kissed Ashton quickly,
"Thank you" Luke smiled, Ashton was nervous about being seen around here with Luke, there were a lot of people that knew him and his family, if word got out his job could be at stake again, but that little part of him, the little part in the back of his head knew that if he didn't make an effort to show Luke how much he cared about him, that he'd lose him, and he didn't want that; he looked around at all the people he knew, and then looked at the innocent and smiling boy in front of him, Ashton remembered something his mother used to say, 'Make sure you always do what scares you, take a leap of faith on three baby, you'll regret it otherwise', he smiled at the memory and counted to three in his head, he cupped Luke's cheeks with his hands and kissed him, Luke pulled away and frowned,
"What? Did I do something wrong?" Ashton asked confused, his heart started racing and he began to shake, he didn't understand what had happened, the frown on Luke's face eased and Luke leaned in to kiss him again, after a few minutes they broke apart and Ashton smiled at him, "You're welcome, by the way" he held out his hand so Luke could hold it and Luke frowned again, "What?"
"We're in public Ash"
"So?"
"Couldn't you get in trouble?"
"Luke, it's Sunday, I'm not your teacher, we're not close to college, just hold my hand and stop worrying" Ashton smiled, Luke nodded and interlocked their fingers as they headed into the market.
