Chapter One: First Day.

"Morning baby" the voice said, he blocked it out. "Come on, up up up" it said again, he grumbled and rolled over. "Luke Hemmings, get out of bed now" the voice said sternly.
"Bugger off, mum. I'm sleeping" Luke said wrapping a pillow around his head, his mum pulled it from under his head and he sat up straight glaring at her, "I wanna go home!" he yelled throwing himself backwards and pulling the duvet over his head,
"Sorry" his mum said, "I like it here though, so get your ass out of bed and get ready for school" she walked out of the room and he rolled his eyes under the covers. He was nervous, terrified even. New country, new school, new people. He didn't do well with new people but he was hoping things would go okay. He put on the dull uniform, shirt, black trousers, black converse to add a bit of style and the tie baring the college colours; Gallows View College, red, black and white. "Mum I'm going, bye!" he said running down the stairs and out the front doors, he ran down the drive and stopped at the gates, he took a deep breath and shut his eyes, "Let the day begin" he whispered.

"Morning class, we have a new student today." the teacher said as the class took their seats, "Guys, you kinda need to wake up" he chuckled a little and looked at Luke, he was stood in front of the class looking absolutely terrified. "GUYS C'MON!" the teacher shouted, "Fine, I'll start, I'm Mr.Irwin" Luke smiled at him and then a boy with bright green hair stood up at the back of the class,

"I'm Michael, I'm Australian, I'm very sorry you're stuck in this place with all of us, but you look like a freak so you'll fit in with the loser over there." he pointed at a boy in the corner sat on his own, laughed, sat down and high fived a boy to his left,

"Umm, hi" Luke said quietly as he looked at the floor,

"Whey, it speaks!" Michael yelled, Luke looked at the teacher who'd zoned out and was typing away on his laptop,

"Can I sit down, please?" Luke asked, the teacher nodded and Luke looked around at the only seats available, there was one next to a blonde girl at the front who was giving him really flirty looks; first three shirt buttons undone, long bleach blonde extension filled hair, bright orange, fake nails so long that her fake eyelashes and thick black eyeliner was wonky. There was another next to the green haired boy, he wanted to avoid him though. The last seat available was next to the boy sat in the back left corner, he hadn't looked up at Luke once and he hadn't stopped writing either, he had light brown hair and it was perfectly coiffed. Luke shuffled through the people and sat down, he pulled out a notebook and a pen and went to write the date, his pen wasn't working, "Typical" he whispered, he scribbled a little and slammed the pen on the table, he put his head on the desk and hoped class would be over soon.

"Here" a voice said, Luke looked up and to his left at the boy he was sitting next to,

"Oh, thank you" he said taking the pen from him,

"Welcome" the boy said as he looked back down at his work, "I'm Liam, by the way" he said,

"Hi" Luke replied, his gaze flew back to his teacher,

"Right class, did you all do the reading?" Luke snapped his head up to the teacher and his eyes widened, "Mr.Hemmings, you read this?" Mr.Irwin asked holding the book up, Luke shook his head and Mr.Irwin walked round the class and handed him his copy of the book, it was worn out and looked like it had been read a million times,

"Thank you" Luke said as he took the book,

"He's Australian people, there's more of us!" Michael shouted, the teacher rolled his eyes and looked back at his class,

"Right class, take the lesson off, Luke, read the book"

"The whole book?"

"Yes, the whole boo- No, we haven't read The Erl-King or The Snow Child yet, so don't read those" Luke nodded and Mr.Irwin clapped his hands, "Come on the people, lets go, lets go!" he yelled, Luke grabbed his bag and ran out of the room, he'd forgotten to give Mr.Irwin his book back, he wasn't even sure if he was supposed to but he decided to keep it till the next lesson anyway. He pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket and read the number aloud, "450, right okay, that's down here I think?" he was concentrating on the locker numbers when someone pushed him to the ground, he fell on his front and the books spilled from his bag, he grunted a little and looked over his shoulder, it was Michael and the boy that sat next to him, they were laughing at him, "Ouch" he mumbled, he watched as they walked off.

"Are you okay?" a voice asked, Luke looked up at the boy crouching in front of him, he recognised him, he was his English Literature teacher,

"Fine" Luke said pushing himself up, Mr.Irwin stood up and held his hands out,

"Here, I'll help you up" he said with a smile, Luke smiled back and took his hands,

"Cheers" he said swiping something off the floor, "Why'd they do that? Did I do something wrong?" he asked the teacher,

"No, you didn't do anything wrong, Michael and Calum are always like this, ignore them" the teacher said,

"I'm Lu- You already know who I am, sorry" Luke said, the teacher laughed a little and held out his right hand,

"I'm Ashton, Ashton Irwin" Luke shook his hand and smiled,

"Hi, oh, here's your book" Luke handed him the book and Ashton laughed,

"You need to read it Luke, keep it, give it back to me tomorrow or something" the bell sounded and Luke nodded,

"Cheers, I guess"

"Hey, what do you have now?"

"Umm, hang on" Luke rooted through the stack of papers he'd picked up to find his timetable, "Umm, Science? With Mi-"

"Miss.Mayday, I'll show you the way" Ashton said with a smile, Luke smiled back and followed him down the hall,

"Here's your class"

"Cheers, I owe you" he smiled and walked in the room, Ashton smiled back and waved as he headed down the hall,

The rest of the day flew past and Luke managed to avoid thinking about Calum and Michael, he managed to avoid thinking about how much his arm hurt and he managed to avoid thinking about how boring college was, but the one thing he couldn't get off of his mind, was Ashton.
