Chapter Eight: Ruined.

The weekend had flown by and Ashton and Luke had spent it together, it was weird and slightly awkward but it also felt right. They'd cooked together, watched crap films, tickled each other to death for the remote or last biscuit and they'd fallen asleep in each others arms. They both forgot about school, the age difference and knowing Ashton could lose his job, because that weekend, none of it mattered. But now it was Sunday night and despite the thought of it not being real it was, Luke had to go home. "I'll drive you, c'mon" Ashton said with a smile, Luke pushed him against the wall next to the front door and looked him in the eyes, he chuckled slightly and kissed him lightly, Ashton smiled through the kiss and ran his hands up Luke's back, they both laughed and Ashton pulled back, "You need to go" he said quickly, Luke frowned at him, something was wrong and he didn't know what, "Luke, I'm serious, come on" he said again putting his hands on Luke's chest, he pushed him away and Luke stepped back still frowning,

"What's wrong?" Luke asked grabbing Ashton's wrist,

"Nothing, let's go" Ashton said sternly,

"You're lying, what is it? Did I do something wrong?" Luke was worrying now, Ashton twisted his hand so Luke'd let go and glared at him,

"Let's just go." He stormed out of the apartment and down to his car, Luke stood in the living room confused, he was upset and angry too but he wasn't sure why. He fumbled about in his bag for a piece of paper and scribbled something on it, he ran out after Ashton but kept quiet. The ride home was awkward, extremely awkward. Ashton pulled up outside Luke's house, he looked to his right at Luke's house then looked to his left where his eyes met Luke's, "What's wrong?" he asked noticing how bloodshot Luke's eyes were,

"Nothing, thank you for driving me home" Luke said quietly, he sniffed a little and tried to blink a few tears away,

"Luke, what's wrong?" Ashton's tone had changed, he sounded like himself again,

"Nothing Ash, I promise" he smiled as much as he could muster and got out the car, he walked up the driveway and tapped lightly on his front door, turning back to look at Ashton he knew what was coming. Ashton waved and smiled and Luke copied before walking into the house, straight past his mother and into his room.

"Fuck sake, I can't believe I let that happen" Ashton said as he was driving home, "Stupid, stupid stupid" it didn't take him long to get back, he stormed through his front door slamming things about and getting angry with everything when he spied the piece of paper on the breakfast bar, he frowned in confusion and picked it up;

'Ashton,

I'm really sorry for whatever I did to make you angry, I didn't mean to I swear!

The weekend was amazing and I really enjoyed myself and, well, I kinda like you...

I know you don't feel the same and that's fine, but I needed to tell you and tell you that I'm dropping English too, so you don't feel awkward or anything.

Maybe call me sometime or something? I don't know, I'm being stupid now, here's my number anyway...

Luke. xx'

Ashton crumpled the paper in his hand and threw it at the bin, he shook his head and walked off to bed going over the weekend in his head. He'd let Luke sleep on the left side of the bed, his, he was the guest after all but when he got into bed he instinctively got in on the right side of the bed, as if Luke was still laying in Ashotn's spot, he could smell Luke on his pillow and it made him feel weird, he couldn't describe it, but he liked the smell. He ended up hugging his pillow just so he could imagine he was hugging Luke again, "No no, this is wrong" he whispered to himself, the problem was, it felt so right.

"Morning class, your reports are due in two days and they are worth 50% of your final grade. End of term exams are coming up and I expe-MICHAEL CLIFFORD WILL YOU STOP TALKING OR LEAVE MY CLASSROOM." Ashton snapped spinning around and slamming his hands down onto his desk, he made everyone jump and Michael shut up straight away; something was wrong and they all knew it, "Anyway, yes, final exams, I expect you all to try your best and work hard but not to pass, well obviously I want you to pass that'd be great, but I mean, don't push yourself so much that you screw up, just go with it all and keep relaxed, I guess" Ashton said writing down the exam information on the chalkboard behind his desk. He was about to say something else when the door creaked open; "Luke Hemmings, you're late" Ashton said raising his eyebrows and crossing his arms across his chest,

"Sorry, Sir" he mumbled as he went to sit down,

"Why are you late?" Ashton asked,

"Overslept?" Luke said as if Ashton should have known that, "I had a busy weekend" he smirked,

"No excuses, detention after school."

"What?"

"Detention, after school, in here, 1 hour"

"Are you kidding me?" Luke laughed a little, this had to be a joke,

"No."

"So you're actually giving me detention?"

"YES, MR.HEMMINGS NOW BE QUIET" he slammed his fists onto the desk and made everyone jump again, Luke nodded and looked at the desk, "Now then, does anyone have any questions about the final exam?"

"Yeah, when we're done is this class over?" Zayn asked tipping backwards on his chair,

"I assume so but I don't know for sure yet" Ashton replied sitting at his desk and rubbing his temples, "Silence for the rest of the lesson please, get on with your reports" everyone did as they were told and the lesson dragged. Luke's wrist was really playing up and his nose still hurt, the bruises and cuts had started to fade away. As the bell sounded everyone started to leave but Luke stayed put,

"Go to your lesson, Luke" Ashton said sliding his glasses up his nose and marking some papers from the younger years,

"Can I talk to you please?" Luke asked shyly,

"About?"

"The weekend"

"No, please go to your next class"

"Sir please, did I do something wrong?"

"Go to class, Mr.Hemmings" Luke frowned, he hated it when Ashton called him that,

"Ashton, please" Luke begged, Ashton stood up fast and the chair flew back and hit the wall hard behind him,

"GO, TO CLASS" he shouted pointing to the door. The eye contact wasn't broken but Ashton could see the hurt in Luke's eyes,

"Okay..." Luke whispered as he made his way out of the room.

He didn't understand what was wrong with Ashton, he'd changed so quickly and so suddenly. Luke was hurt, mainly because he didn't understand why Ashton would, well, lead him on the way he did, but also because he knew from the start that getting involved was a bad thing, but he let himself get involved and now he'd ruined all his chances.
