-Chapter 11-

The Day comes quickly and before I actually realise it, I'm waking up and strapping on weapons. I barely remember anything until suddenly I'm walking into town. Jade squeezes my hand, letting it go to give me that trusty cloak. The Captain (ok Adan) and Lupin are meeting us in a dingy pub just over the line and we make it there in good time. The nerves jitter around like men mining in my stomach and I can't stop moving, darting my eyes around the bar in a daze, taking in every little detail. I turn back to see Jade casting me a concerned glace from under her hood and I give her a small smile in return, hoping that if I cannot ease my own fears, I can help erase hers. The two men walk in, sliding into our booth.

"Have you got the pins?" Adan asks, bypassing pleasantries and I hand them over, memories washing over me.

The woods, the fight, my first kill, the fallen solider, stealing his pin.

The first day in the city, the beating, me taking his Commander identification.

Shaking my head to clear my mind, I turn to Jade, flinging my arms around her as she softly kisses me, hoods hiding it from the world, letting us have our own bubble of tentative happiness.

"Come back to me," she says, half question, half command.

"Promise. I'll see you soon." And with that, and another lingering kiss, I allow the Captain, now Commander chain my wrists and Lupin, now a solider, to roughly push me out of the bar.

The walk through the street is worse than before, the insults louder, harsher. So I stumble through it barely hearing the words, only coming back to reality when we reach the gates to the palace. I look up at the iron structure and hide my grin.

It was time to destroy it from within.

Alan drags me up to the Guards on the gate. I hear Lupins footsteps retreat as he goes to help Jade, leaving Adan and I alone to tackle the guard. I do my best playing the battered prisoner, keeping my head down, staggering and shoulders hunched.

What's the point on sneaking in when you can use the front door?

"What filth do we have here?" The man asks, crooked teeth glinting in the sunlight. Then comes the confusion, suspicion.

"Wait you aren't a Commander..."

"Promotion," Alan says, brushing the comment away, flashing the pin to ease the guy's concern. It seems to work as I don't hear any more complaints.

"Well, take her round the back," he replies.

"Oh the King is going to want to see this. In fact, he's waiting for us already." He leans closer, as if conspiring.

"She's a rebel." The guy laughs and pulls the lever to lower the gate.

"Well, in you go. Can't keep His Majesty waiting, can we?" Alan nods and drags me through the gates, which slams shut behind us. We did, in fact, get the King to agree to meet us, using a courtier with the Commanders stamp to deliver a message.

Got to be thorough.

Alan only knows that the front half of the palace is reserved for business, the back half for the royalty and such. And so as we pass through door, he stops.

"I have no idea where to go," he whispers and I grin my feral grin.

"I do." He raises his eyebrows, rightfully confused but I just direct him through the hallways to the place where we would meet.

The throne room.

If this didn't seem real to me in the pub, it certainly does now but it only makes me stand taller. Alan removes the bindings. This is where he leaves me, in case anything goes wrong. Jade should already be inside, hidden and waiting. I shake his hand, smile and turn.

This is where it gets interesting

I knock, once, twice and then kick open the door with a resounding clang.

Go big or go home. I stalk inside, cloak fluttering behind me, seeing the King sitting on the throne, mouth open. The guards point their swords at me but in a few quick moves I disable them. Thanks to Jade, I'm more than equipped to handle them. One stab to the heart, a pummel over his head.

I walk down to the base of the throne. The walls are lined with antiques and royal artefacts, the rug soft and clean. What a shame about the blood. The other four guards charge at me and I don't even flinch, strutting down the aisle as Jade shoots each one with a bow with deadly accuracy before they even get close to me. I stop and give a mocking bow, not a curtsy, and the king's lip curls with hatred.

"Nice to see you again Father."
