Proposal On The Beach

    "Ooh. That one looks nice." "Yeah, but it might be too flashy." "Thirty carets isn't flashy." "Okay then pick that one." "No way it'll remind him of his mother." "Lars is pink too." "Look I ain't no ring expert but isn't that a tad out of his allowance range?" "Pick that one." "Ooh, Garnet that's a good one." "Let's see the price-" "What you up to?" "AHH!!!" all six gems jumped in surprise. Steven was behind them holding a bowl of cereal. 

   "Steven!" they said at once. "Again, what are y'all up to?" he scooped some cereal into his mouth. "Just buying some much needed clothes." Pearl lied. "For me?" his eyes sparkled. "Yeah!" "That's right." "Happy non-birthday." he hugged the gems. "Thank you!!!" they plastered awkward smiles on their faces. "You're welcome Stev-o." Amethyst patted his back. "Welp, I better hurry up and eat this cereal. Connie invited me out." he put another spoonful into his mouth. "I thought you were into boys?" Bismuth questioned. "Oh no, it's not a date. I just need new sneakers that's all." the gems all nodded. "Well bye guys!" he finished the bowl, put it on the coffee table and went through the door. "Ugh, he left his bowl." Pearl picked it up. "He's been around Amethyst for too long."  she said as she headed for the kitchen. "Well we better send him what we selected." Garnet suggested. "Oh yeah...let's do that." the purple Quartz took out the phone and sent a screen shot.

   "Well son?" the jeweler asked from behind the counter. "This one." he showed him the pic. The man whistled. "That's a smart choice." he reached into the display and revealed a scarlet box. Lars gave the man twenty dollars and pocketed the box. He then took out his phone and texted his lover, instructing him to come to the beach. His heart was racing as he typed.

  Connie had just brought another box for him to try when his phone pinged. The half gem glanced at his screen. "Message from Lars?" he nodded in reply. "Go on and read it." he opened the message. A good ten seconds passed. "He wants me to come to the beach." he said while looking at his screen. "Then I suppose we hurry and find the one." he smiled as she handed him a box.

    Lars was sitting on a rock. The wind was blowing but not fiercely. He took out a cigarette from the pack and lit up. The orange glow illuminated his face. He inhaled the smoke then exhaled watching it dissipate. Yeah Steven told him to quit but he never got around to do it. Besides it calmed him in a weird way. 

  He put the cigarette into his mouth and took another puff. A hand came and pulled the joint from his mouth. He sighed and looked up. "What did I tell you?" the brunette asked him, his hands on his hips. "Quit smoking?" he sounded unsure. "So why did I just witness you puffing again?" he crushed the still lit cigarette in his hand. Lars marveled at that display. Doesn't his palm hurt? "Are you gonna answer that question?" he said in annoyance. "Sorry. It won't happen again." he promised. "It better. I don't want you to die." he said softly. 

  Lars stood and faced the brunette. The wind picked up a little. "I need to tell you something." he started. "Okay." in all honesty the half gem was nervous. "For two years we have been something. Not in a relationship. It's more like two people trying something out. And I'm tired." Steven gulped. "I'm tired of the same old galaxy. It's fun and all but so boring. I wanna see the stars. There's a whole universe just waiting to be explored. So Steven," he got down on one knee, "will you be my boyfriend?" he opened a box to reveal a silver ring. The words "Steven & Lars" were engraved into the surface. Steven gasped and covered his mouth in surprise. "Lars...." he whispered. "Yes?" the Filipino was anxious. "I would love to be your boyfriend." he then gave the pink skinned boy a hug. "Aww shucks." he blushed into the hug.

  "Loving it!" Amethyst had her phone out, taking pictures like crazy. The Cool Kids were there too, video taping the ordeal. Bismuth, Peridot and Lapis were crying. Jasper was trying to comfort them all. Pearl was holding back her own tears and Garnet was just standing. But anyone could see the small smile on her face. 

  "Give him a kiss Steven!" the small Quartz yelled out. He groaned at her antics. "Steven Quartz Universe, a Crystal Gem requested something from you. As their leader you should give it to them." Lars teased. "Shut up okay?" He then kissed the teen on the cheek. Amethyst died in the background. "Oh no!" Pearl rushed to her side. " I didn't see this happening." the fusion commented as Pearl performed chest compressions. The new couple didn't notice a thing.
