Battle scars (Bucky Barnes x reader)

Chapter 81

"There they are!" Sam cheers upon seeing you and your family join his cookout. Bucky held your hand as Grace sat on top of his shoulders. Carrying the cake in his other hand he let go of yours to play fight with Sarah's two boys who were just as excited to see you.

"Where is everybody?" Bucky laughs as he sets down the cake on the table, pulling Grace off his shoulders so that she can go play with the other kids.

"Hey how are you holding up? Sam told me about your injury" Sarah asks as Sam and Bucky hug each other.

"I'm doing much better, being a super soldier really helps the healing process, though Bucky wouldn't let me leave the bed for three days" you laugh with her.

"There's my favourite super soldier" Sam pulls you in for a hug next.

"Hey hey, gentle with her" Bucky warns his friend.

"How's he treating you? You know you can tell me the truth" Sam whispers the last part jokingly.

"He's perfect" you smiled over at Bucky.

"I'm gonna go play with the kids!" Bucky calls as he rushes off towards the group of small kids. You just laugh and wave him off as a loud wave of giggles sound out from the children.

"At least he's good with kids" Sarah smiled to you. You all sat down together, enjoying the afternoon and talking to everyone around.

Music played as you sat on the bench, watching the kids playing around until a shadow was cast over you and you looked up to meet happy blue eyes.

"May I have this dance?" He held his hand out for you to take.

"Of course" you smiled, taking his hand in yours as he pulled you to stand. The brunette super soldier pulled you in close to him.

"You know I was quite the ladies man back in my day" he started with a smirk.

"Oh really?" You giggle as he holds you closer.

"But there was only one girl who truly caught my eye" he spins you and pulls you back, closer to him. "Unfortunately we never got our proper dance" The two super soldiers swayed back and forth gently as a crowd gathered to watch you on the docks.

"Aw look at the lovebirds!" Sam called out, Grace in his arms as he held her up to watch. You buried your slightly pink face into Bucky's chest as he laughed lightly at your embarrassment from the watching eyes.

Later in the evening you noticed Sam staring off into the sunset. Bucky had is arm wrapped around your waist as you both made your way over to your friend.

"Come on man" Bucky patted Sam on the shoulder, pulling him back towards the group.

"You two are a sickening sweet couple" Sam laughed.

"Yeah" Bucky smiled down at you. "Who would have thought that all those years ago you were almost with Charles"

"Wait, who's Charles?" Sam looked between you both.

"My fiancé, but I broke it off when we went to war" you explained.

"I hated that guy" Bucky sneered.

"I know, I know Buck" you pat his shoulder with a smile. "I'm gonna go talk with Sarah for a bit" you break off from the boys with a wave. Soon you are sitting on the bench with Sarah and Grace comes over.

"Hi mommy" she climbs into your lap and rests her head in the crook of your neck.

"Hey Princess" you simply wrap your arms around her and go back to your conversation with Sarah.

"So how long have you two been together? Because I remember the last time you were here you definitely weren't this close"

"We actually got together right after all of that chaos a few weeks ago" you shrugged, smiling at the memory.

"Wow, your one lucky girl to find a love like that" Sam's sister commented.

"Yeah well, it took me about 100 years to find it" you laugh.

"You really like her huh?" Sam stands next to Bucky, a beer in his hand as he questions the man watching you and your daughter.

"Yeah, I do" he nods with a smile.

"It took you long enough to realize it" Sam nudged him.

"What do you mean?" Bucky pulled his eyes off you and turned to the new captain America with his eyebrows pulling together in confusion.

"Come on man, I could tell she loved you since the day we first fought you" Sam tells him, recalling the memory's.

"Well those weren't my brightest days"

"I think your making up for it now" they both looked to you and the sleepy girl in your lap.

"Well it was nice to see you again but I think I should be getting them home now" Bucky hugged his friend before making his way over to his girlfriend. "Hey, are you ready to go?" He pulled the girl from your arms and into his own.

"Yeah, I'll see you later Sarah" you stood to hug her then Sam who had also came over to say his goodbyes.

"You take care of him okay?" Sam pointed to Bucky.

"I promise" you saluted him before following your two favourite people back to the car.

"Let's go home, to our castle with our little princess" Bucky held your hand in his as he carried the little brunette girl in his other arm.
