Chapter 10
A few seconds later, my dad came in. I winced slightly, awaiting his reaction. He sat on the uncomfortable chair near my chair and put his head in his hands, as awkward silence filled the room. I ‘m not sure how to approach the subject, so I’ll leave that job to him.
After a few minutes, he lifted his head up, sadness filling his eyes.
“I won’t be an asshole and shout at you, because I know that this is already hard for you without me adding to your plate. I’m very disappointed in you, though.” He said calmly. I rubbed my eyes stubbornly, trying to prevent the tears from flowing, but I knew that it’s too late to try and contain myself. I just nodded, not sure how to reply. How do I answer that?!
“Dad, I know and I’m sorry. We only did it once though! Abortion is not an option. I don’t believe in it.” He rubbed his chin and closed his eyes, considering my answer. He nodded.
“You can keep it, but it’s your responsibility. Of course I will help you, but this is mainly your responsibility. You will need to work for the money, and you will need to take care of it.”
“I will, daddy.” I agreed. At least, this was out of the way. Now, to the hard part. I still need to talk to the baby daddy, Hunter. I needed help with this, though. I need Casey, and I need time.
“Dad, call Casey for me, will ya?” All I need right now, are her words of encouragement. He nodded, and went out of the room. I took the few seconds of peace to adjust myself, and to wipe the tears that had flowed when I was talking to my dad.
When Casey entered the room, all the effort that I’ve been putting to keep my face clear from tears went to waste. I just broke into a fit of sobs and started crying uncontrollably, while attempting horribly to cover my face with my shaking hands. I really hated to be watched while crying. It made me feel very weak and uncomfortable.
Casey immediately rushed to my side and held me close while I cried. I was definitely a mess right now.
“I don’t know how to tell Hunter that I’m pregnant with his child! How will he take it? I can’t be a mother on my own!” I wailed.
“Even if he didn’t take it well and left you, you won’t be alone. You will have me! Also your father and Sarah, and I’m sure Lance will also support you!” That made me notice that she is right. I won’t be on my own. I have a family and best friends! Although my mother isn’t here to help me...
Whoa! I shouldn’t let my thoughts trail to her!
“Casey, when do you suggest I tell him?” I asked, trying hard to stop remembering that horrid memory of my bitch of a mother.
“Tell him as soon as possible. Try not to procrastinate. He has to find out soon, because I’m pretty sure that he’ll need time to decide whether he wants to support you with the baby.” That’s true.

I was released from the hospital later that day, and I was very grateful for that. I hated sitting in the hospital bed, everybody around me, looking at me as if I just survived a heart attack. Everyone except Alex. He was the only clueless one in the group. Lance found out soon after Casey and mine’s discussion. I told her to talk to him separately and tell him that I’m pregnant. He took it very well.
Every person aware of my pregnancy knows that if they open their mouths and reveal that little secret to anyone, our friendship is over. It is still a very sensitive topic to me, and I take it seriously. As soon as my head hit my bed’s pillow, I started drifting to sleep. It was late at night, and I was going to school tomorrow. I was planning on confronting Hunter tomorrow. I need sleep!
But no, Alex had other plans. He had to text me and tell me to open my window. Oh, did I forget to tell you that his house is right next to mine, and that his window is directly facing mine? Well, yeah. Ironic, isn’t it?
I opened my window, to find him already standing there smiling. My lips twitched up at the corners, but I forced them back down, glaring at him.
“What do you want, Alex?” I snapped.
“Move over, there’s a reason why I asked you to open your window.” He replied. Oh, the sneaking in. We used to do that a lot two years ago. I moved to the side, allowing him to jump into my room. He brushed off imaginary dust from his shirt and then looked back up at me.
“Hailey, I just need an explanation. An explanation of why you changed.”
“People grow. They change. I changed. End of story.” I said. I was not just about to open up to this asshole that rejected me. His eyes hardened at my answer.
“I was about to give us a chance! A chance to be mates! But you blew it.” He almost shouted.
“Oh, how sweet of you. I don’t think that’s a way to be with your mate. I don’t feel ready to open up, and you have to respect that!” I shouted and shoved him towards the window. “Just go back to your damn room and don’t talk to me again!”
He turned and looked back at me for a moment, sighing. “I’ll be back.” He promised and jumped out of my window, not giving me a chance to reply.
I sighed and went back to my bed. So much for a night of sleep.
