Chapter 23

“Carson?” I asked as he walked closer and my heartbeat accelerated. We were in a forest in the middle of a bunch of trees.

“Shut the hell up!” he yelled and I whimpered. That was the most emotion that he had over shown me, and it wasn’t something I enjoyed.

“At least explain!” I pleaded. He looked at me with an expression of pure hatred.

“What you need to know is that you are OVER. My master will kill you, and that’s where I’m taking you,” he growled and grabbed my arm, yanking me towards him and making me scream loudly.

“Stop screaming!” he ordered and tears formed in my eyes.

“So you are the betrayer? You have been betraying us all this time?” I asked, but he didn’t answer. Instead, he faded along with everything around me.

I woke up with a start. I was panting really quickly and sweat was covering my whole body. My hand subconsciously wrapped around the necklace on my neck. But something was unusual. The diamond pendant was glowing brightly in the dark room and it felt terribly hot in my hand. Slowly, the light started to fade and it went back to its normal temperature. That was really weird.

The dream felt so real, but… Carson couldn’t be betraying us, could he? The idea was too impossible, but yet, the dream felt so realistic. I couldn’t help but start doubting Carson. He always seemed so odd, but he was the alpha’s brother, for crying out loud! I shook the idea from my head as I drifted to sleep once again.

“Hailey, get up!” squealed the familiar voice of my best friend, Casey.

“Why?” I groaned and put my pillow over my face, in an attempt to drown Casey’s hyper squeals.

“We’re going out!”

“Why so early?” I complained.

“I don’t know. Carson planned it,” she said definitely grabbing my attention. Carson? I removed the pillow from over my face and looked at her. That reminded me of my previous dream. Thinking of the outing that Carson had planned, my mind wandered to the bizarreness of the subject. Carson never socialized with us but always loomed in our shadows instead, so why did he start now? I couldn’t help but sense suspiciousness from the dream.

“Are you okay?” asked Casey worriedly, cutting me off my train of thoughts.

“Yeah, yeah,” I shook her off. “Where are we going?”

“No idea. Nobody other than him knows.”

“Nobody? Who’s going anyways?” I asked, shoving the blankets from over my body and felt the cold air whip my exposed skin.

“Me, you, Lance, Alex, Carson, Chris, Sarah, and Danielle,” she listed them off, using her fingers to count. “So, eight people.” Danielle? Oh yeah… Lance’s mate. I couldn’t believe I actually forgot about her. With everything going on, she was the last thing on my mind.

“Oh, okay… Um… Can you get out so I can change my clothes?” I asked awkwardly. She nodded and went out of the room. Truth was I didn’t want her to leave so I can change my clothes. It’s not like she’s never seen me naked before; we always change clothes in the same room. I just needed time alone to analyze what was going on.

I slipped on a t-shirt and shorts (the weather was getting really hot), and looked out of my room’s window. It overlooked our and Alex’s house’s backyards. In theirs, I could see the group that I was going out with. Lance and Danielle were aside talking to each other privately, just as Chris and Sarah were. Casey was chatting excitedly to Carson who looked as if he would rip his hair out at any second. But Alex wasn’t there…
