Chapter 26

My mom was in front of me. She was a monster. She was something I never thought she would be. She wanted to kill me for her vampire friend.

“Just wait. I told him that I’ve finally accomplished the plan of capturing you. He’s on his way,” she said with a devilish smile on her face.

“Where is he?” I asked. She got up and headed to the door, turning of the light. Just when I thought she wasn’t answering, she replied.

“Oh, another country. Mind you, you don’t need to know everything.” And then she went out and shut the door behind her, leaving me in the darkness once again.

God, I had to find a way to escape. It was either that I stay there and be at the mercy of Victor, or try to find a way to run away. And if I got caught… well, I was going to die anyways.

But first, I needed light. I couldn’t see a thing! Just as I thought that, dim light came out from my chest. I looked down and noticed that the beam was radiating from the pendant of the necklace that Alex gave me. Second by second, the light got stronger, until the radiance was wide enough for me to see the whole room.

How did that happen?! I wanted to reach out and touch the pendant but mu hands were still bound in ropes. If only I were free from the ropes…

The ropes fell from my hand! What was happening?! I got up and looked at the door. If everything that I wanted came true, would the door open? I longed the door to open, but nothing happened. I paced around the room. What if all I needed was just a little more concentration? I leaned my back on the wall, closed my eyes, wished for the door to open, and then reopened my eyes. But nothing. I sighed and looked up for inspiration.

“Don’t think that the walls and I aren’t magic proof,” a voice said. I looked around. “I’m the door!” it said again. Looking at the door, I realized that a face was on it.

“Magic?” I asked.

“So you think that you got light and your wrists were untied miraculously?” it asked.

“Well, I haven’t really thought about it,” I replied honestly. “But then, how do I get out of here?”

“That’s your problem. You think that I will help you? I don’t even know the answer myself! I’ve been stuck here for a year, but I am hopeless. I’m just a door.”

“How did you get here in the first place?”

“That witch caught me, your mom. She casted a spell and I’m stuck here on this door to guard the room.”

“Maybe I can use magic and reverse the spell?” I offered.

“I told you, I am magic proof. The only way to do so is to kill Christine.”

“Listen, I’m a werewolf. If I get out, I will go to my pack and get them to help me kill her. I will save you. But first, please help me. Do you possibly know any way that I could use to escape?”

“Hmm.. I know that there is an underground tunnel, and the floor here is made of wooden boards. A human definitely wouldn’t be able to break them, but maybe if you change into a wolf you can?”

“I’ll try. But, is there anybody underground?” I had to take precautions.

“That, I don’t know. But it’s your only hope. And I’ll flip my face to the other side of the door to keep guard of the room in case someone is making his way and to give you privacy,” as soon as he finished talking, his face disappeared. I directly stripped and changed into my wolf. Then, I smashed my face into the wood and started clawing at it, colliding my paws with it until a hole was formed. Next, I howled quietly to let the door know that I succeeded, held my clothes in my jaw, and jumped down in the hole.

Before I knew it, I collided with the gravel ground. My necklace, which was still on my neck even in my wolf form, was still giving me light, allowing me to see in the complete darkness. Looking around, I made sure that there was nobody. I strained my ears for a sound, but there wasn’t any. The place had a weird dusty smell. I had to figure out where to go; right or left. One would be my escape, and the other would be… I wasn’t sure what. But which was which, I had no idea.

Suddenly, the beam of light wasn’t coming where the necklace was anymore. I looked down at the pendant, and it wasn’t glowing. The beam was out of it! It floated in the air and went to the left tunnel. I followed it, as my instinct told me that the beam was leading me to my escape. I walked and walked, occasionally seeing rats and hurrying away, until I reached a set of stairs with cobwebs at each corner. I carefully walked up the round staircase, and the higher I went up, the brighter the light became. When I went out, the beam of light retreated to my pendant and went off, so I guessed that its job was done.

I looked around me. I was out of the house! But… The place was foreign and completely secluded. There was no house except for the one that I was in a few minutes ago. With no one to tell me where I was, I felt lost. Walking on my four paws, I hiked through the miles of trees and nature stretching in front of me.

Did I have any hope? Was I completely lost?
