Chapter 4

I was starting to feel really uncomfortable under Alex's intense gaze as I avoided eye contact with him to reduce the awkwardness. I really hated being stuck in such situations in which I didn't know what to do with myself. Alex never used to discomfit me before, and I wondered what happened to that.

Just then, I felt a tap at my shoulder and mentally thanked whoever that was as I turned backwards.

"Oh my God, Chris!" I squealed ecstatic to see Chris, Alex's twin brother, standing before me. I hugged him, squeezing the life out of him. He wasn't really my best friend when he was still living here before moving to Australia, but he was a great friend of mine. Whenever I needed someone to talk to, he was always there. He is a great listener and advice-giver.

“Wow, girl! You’ve changed!” He said when I pulled back, eying me up and down. I tried pulling my top down to cover my exposed stomach, but that just resulted in putting my cleavage on display. Alex looked down at them, just like any other normal guy would, but Chris didn't. He was only a brother figure to me, and what kind of brother would look at his sister's boobs?

“Who’s that guy?” He asked, motioning towards Hunter, who was chatting with Lance. I looked down and tried to think of how to answer that question. He was obviously confused why I was sucking face with Hunter instead of Damon. The only that I managed to utter was, “Uh…”

“Please welcome Hailey Greene to the stage!” The announcer said, saving me from answering the inevitable question. The cheers exploded and my heart beat accelerated as I thought of an excuse to tell Chris.

“Oh Sorry! Let Sara explain to you!” I said, knowing that Sarah could stall him. I hurried towards the stage, but not before noticing the blush coming on his face at the mentions of Sarah’s name. That was so cute!

I got up on stage and smiled at the crowd. The prominent light of the flashing cameras blinded me and I squinted my eyes as I was handed the microphone. Some of the people were holding shopping bags, so I knew that they were just shopping and stopped by to see what the commotion was about.

I held the microphone tightly in my hand and smiled shyly. I was really outgoing and fun in my videos, but that was because if I messed up on something, I could remove it. But performing in front of hundreds of people with no option of 'deleting' the unwanted scenes was different, and it was definitely scary.

I cleared my thought and looked around trying to find my family and friends through the crowd, but it was in vain, for the place was really crowded and I had no hope of finding anyone there. "Uh, hi," I said, "Thank you for coming all the way here for watching my first performance. It really means a lot. First song is 'I Knew You Were Trouble' by Taylor Swift."

I started singing, and closed my eyes, gaining more confidence in myself each passing second. At first, I was shaking from fear of messing up, but I knew deep inside that I had to have more faith in myself.

'Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in

So shame on me now

Flew me to places I'd never been

So you put me down oh

I knew you were trouble when you walked in

So shame on me now

Flew me to places I'd never been

Now i'm lying on the cold hard ground

Oh, oh, trouble, trouble, trouble

Oh, oh, trouble, trouble, trouble'

By the end of the song, I was completely used to singing on stage. The  cheers were everywhere, and I was more than ready to sing the other songs. I was back to having my sense of humor and by the end of the concert, I was totally laughing with the crowd and having the time of my life. I was grinning like an idiot the whole time.

*****

I bowed to my audience as the cheers exploded everywhere. My first performance was definitely the best feeling ever! I sat on the chair that the guard has set up for signing, along with a table. Yes, I hired a guard. Who knows what some people might have on their minds?

I managed to sign a few pictures, but just as I held another one, I heard shouting:

“Wait for your turn like every other civil person here!”

"Hailey is a friend of mine! You could ask her!”

I looked up from the picture and raised my eyebrows when I saw Alex and my guard glaring at each other. I guess I should have expected that to happen after all.

“Max, let him in” I said. Alex came up to me and pulled me up from my arm but I yanked it away and pursed my lips at him. "What's your problem?" I whisper-yelled, not wanting people to hear us fighting. I had to keep a good impression for everybody watching me.

“Why didn’t you ever tell me about your talent?”

“Well, sorry, but this happened soon after you left! And the thought never really came up when we talked together. You know you stopped calling me, and I didn’t want to call you just to say that I’m a YouTube star! That would be arrogant," I honestly replied. He had stopped calling me and never really tried communicating with me in any way, and that had truly hurt, but he still managed to make me feel guilty for not telling him.

Alex's POV

She had a point here, but I couldn’t help but feel angry at her for hiding her perfect voice from me! We used to be best friends before I had to move to Australia to find my mate. She even used to hang out with me even more than her boyfriend Damon at that time! I wonder why she left him anyways. I always assumed that they will get grow up to be ‘high school sweethearts’ although I used to feel an unwelcome pang of jealousy whenever I saw them together. And here she is now, swapping spit with that blond guy. She was MINE! I shouldn’t care anyways. I had plenty of girls drooling over me. I could catch any girl I want. I sighed and left.
