Chapter 21

I sat up in the small hospital bed and stretched my aching muscles. They were really sore, and they made me wonder how Alex was feeling. Just then, there was movement from my side. I looked over to Alex’s bed and saw him stirring, waking up. We weren’t allowed to sleep on the same bed because they were little, and the doctors didn’t want Alex to be sleeping in an uncomfortable position. I didn’t believe that Alex would be uncomfortable with his mate next to him, but I didn’t complain; I would have done anything for Alex’s health.

“Why are you on another bed?” he asked me in a hoarse voice. Oh yeah, I forgot that he dropped unconscious from him blood loss as soon as we reached the hospital.

“You are injured terribly and you’re not supposed to be touched,” I explained.

“Come here,” he said as he moved to the side of his bed and patted the space that he created net to him. I looked at it uncertainly but then just decided to listen to him. I actually missed his loving touch and being in his arms. I walked over to his bed and sat down next to him before he wrapped his arms around me shooting tingles everywhere through my body. The second that our bodies came in contact, something started beeping loudly and annoyingly, making me squeal and jump of the bed. When no inch of my body was touching Alex, the beeping sound stopped. What the hell was that?!

I went over to where the sound was coming from – on the floor near the window. There was a little crystal object on the floor, glittering and shining. It was cube-shaped and was the size of a brick. I held it up and thought: How did it get there? I looked up at the window and noticed that there was cracked open, which was unusual, since I remember perfectly well that it was shut close last night. Hmm, maybe a doctor came to check on us when we were asleep and opened the door, thinking that the room needed some fresh air. But that brings me back to the object that I was holding and the mystery of how it got into a room. The possibility of the doctor dropping it was almost impossible – why would a doctor be carrying it?

“What is this?” asked Alex, breaking me from my train of thoughts.

“I have no idea,” I muttered, still examining it. Looking at it from different angles, I shook my head confused. There was definitely nothing in this crystal, yet, I felt like I would use it later on, so I put it on the bedside table, intending on taking it home with me.

A few seconds later after that, a fog started forming inside it and words appeared in white cursive letters.

“That’s weird,” muttered Alex as we squinted at it. A shrill voice suddenly rang out of it and started reading the letter written, saying:

Dear Hailey,

You think you can get away from me? Think again! I am waiting for you; waiting for the right moment to pounce when your annoying mate isn’t there. Are you wondering who I am? I am the person that will finish off every last shred of happiness that you have. I’m someone that detests you with a burning passion, and you have no idea how long I have waited to get my moves started on you.

This thing that is delivering my message to you is a Speakophone. It only exists in the wizard world. Oh right, did I mention that I am a witch? The wolf that has been attacking you is just a follower of mine. But me, I am a witch that is… related to you. Still thinking who I am? I’ve given you plenty of hints already! I’m just going to give you two more things that you can benefit from.
