21: How Could You?

9 5 6

How did you, did you not,
Scurry away, when I was in a spot
Hid in the silence of misconception
Thinking I would make an intervention,
Thinking I'd miss you a lot

How did you, did you not,
Pinch at my shortcomings
Then tell me I had wings,
Only for you to chortle
At the truest of thoughts

How could you, could you not,
Nurse all your problems in one cot
Lick the salt off of your wounds
Fed fire to your feuds
And tell me I would rot

How could you, could you not,
Think I'd give no more thought
At the thinness of your skin, which
Pricked my soul like little pins
Taking your own soul for a spin

How will we, will we not
Set fire to the night sky
With hearts, the heat of embers,
The night sky had no chance, of
Quenching our tempers,
Our own uncontrollable disasters
