The next morning, Kara writes a quick note for Lena explaining that she needed to get back to the campus for a morning class. Kara provides Lena with her cell number so they can text if anything comes up before the Gala tomorrow night. Kara calls Alex from the back of her Lyft as promised.
"Hey, Alex. Just calling to let you know that I'm alive and headed home."
"Kara! You were supposed to text me last night. Why did you stay the night? What happened?"
"Nothing happened! And NDA, Alex. I can't tell you the details, but I stayed to sell the story."
"NDA, my ass! Your photo is all over every gossip column in National City! I know you are doing this with Lena Luthor!"
"I still can't tell you details, Alex. Gossip columns are just that: gossip. I can tell you when I'm safe, and you cannot tell anyone that you know that it isn't real. I probably broke the NDA by just telling you the nature of the work."
"Fine, fine. Just, be careful, Kara. She has enemies, and this is going to blow up your publicity. Have you even thought about that?"
"I-I- guess I didn't. We didn't really cover this. But I'm sure there is a plan. I'll ask her." Kara is being very careful to not mention Lena by name with the driver obviously listening in. Kara wants to make sure that she doesn't do anything to compromise this arrangement that could potentially hurt Lena. Alex and Kara quickly end the call, and Kara heads to class.
After settling into her lecture hall waiting for Professor Grant, Kara's phone dings.
Unknown number: Morning, Kara! This is Lena. I just wanted to give you my number to make sure you have it for any questions. Again, I had a great time last night.
Kara: Good morning, Lena! I actually have a question with the publicity. What happens after the Gala? Won't it be suspicious if I suddenly disappear from your life?
Lena: We will stage a big, messy, public breakup. It'll make news for a little bit and then fade.
For some reason, Kara feels upset by this. She can't figure out why, but she doesn't like the idea of a messy breakup with Lena. Without thinking, she texts back quickly.
Kara: Well, that won't look good either for your believability, will it? I mean, I pop up for a couple days and disappear right away?
Lena: Potentially, but we would frame the breakup as not being able to handle the publicity, which is why we kept it quiet for 3 months.
Kara: Oh..
Lena: We can talk about this after the Gala, I promise.
Before Kara has a chance to respond, Professor Grant struts in, and she has an absolute no phones policy during her classes. Kara resigns herself to paying attention and worry about the deal with Lena later. Meanwhile, in LCorp, Lena is anxious by the series of texts with Kara. Lena is nervous that Kara really didn't think the deal through and may back out. Lena continues to re-read the exchange, trying not to hope that Kara was asking for additional dates to sell the story. But that would be ridiculous because Kara just signed for the one weekend and that's it. She just needs some money for school and then she's out. Lena definitely should not be getting attached.
Once Kara gets home from class, her roommates bombard her the moment she walks into the door.
Winn shouts, "You are dating a Luthor? Why didn't you tell us? I bet she spoils the crap out of you!"
Nia interrupts, "When did this all start?! When have you even had time?"
James chips in jealously, "Seriously, Kara, a Luthor?"
