The morning of Sophie's party was crazy. I'd slept through my alarm having woke up in the night not feeling great and was knackered before I'd even left the house. When I got the bowling alley Tony was there but Chris was no where to be seen and I realised he'd proberly forgotten he was mean't to meet me here at all. I started setting up the banners, and balloons and by half ten I had moved on to the tables. I wiped them all down, stuck a table cloth on each and then added a center piece, which was a weighted 16 and a few balloons. The cake arrived at 11am and I was gald to see it, it looked wonderful and I knew Sophie would love it.

I made sure the fridge was filled with drinks, and that the other area's were tidy just like I would before a normal day at work. At noon people started to arrive and mingle with their friends, I'd set a table up near the far end of the food area for people to put the things they had brought Sophie and the table already looked full.

Just before half 12 I changed the music from the radio to the playlist I had on my iPod, i'd had to download a lot of songs that Sophie would like but it was worth it, I wanted her to have songs she liked.

I got a phone call from Chris at half 12 saying they were just leaving his house, he'd offered to buy Sophie an ice cream having forgotton what he'd done with her actual present (a ruse just to get her here). I told everyone we had ten minutes, there wasn't really anywhere to hid so we just settled for being really quite and I paused the music.

I was quite nervous waiting and I wondered how I would have felt if Chris was here, holding my hand and telling me I'd done a great job like he was meant to be. We all heard the car pull into the car park and I felt everyone in the room hold their breath.

"SURPISE," the whole room euprted as Sophie and Chris came bursting through the door.

Sophie was engulfed by her friends, seeing how happy she was made me realised just how much i'd lost, I quickly headed out back and started the music up and then sat in the office trying really hard not to cry.
