Poem

Despised my heart

And it's so called love

Because the smallest of affection

Causes it to bloom

Into something beautiful

Only to wilt again

Unable to sustain itself

Why even try

To love anymore

If that's the plan

To betray itself countless times

As if a record on repeat

Making me bear the pain

Of losing someone once again

And watching the sadness

Through eyes, in another heart

Locked up my heart

To keep from reaching out

Only to protect others

From that same, hopeless fate

Shall no longer to try

and fail at this risky game

For loved ones' tears have been shed far too many times

Contain the emotions so no more can be wounded

A battle of heart is a battle of soul, destructive to both

Casualties are inevitable in this war declared against myself

Yet the tree snapped in the wind and broke more than itself

I can longer feel love anymore, for I broke myself to protect others from that very emotion that has disappeared from inside of heart
