Plot Idea

A short story about someone having to get over a missing person. The missing person would have disappeared years ago and everyone around them is telling their friend to move on. I'd probably write it like their friend is writing a last letter to the missing person before finally giving up on them returning. It'd be emotional and the point of the story would be to make people sad, but the end should have a theme on moving on is not a bad thing.

Although, I'm not sure if it would be in a fantasy-ish setting or a modern setting.

If it was fantasy, the missing person would have had the power to hide/dissolve in water. Their power would have malfunctioned and caused them to get lost in the ocean, unable to recollect their consciousness as it drifted away with the sea. Their friend would live near the ocean, waiting solemnly for them to return one day.

If it's modern, the missing person would have disappeared as a highschool senior and the letter is about how their friend is finally moving on in her adult life.

That's about as far as I've fleshed out this idea.
