"Listen," he said, pulling his lips away from hers. "Do you hear that?" he then asked, noticing the slight trembles coming from the floor boards.

"I don't hear anything," she replied before kissing him again. She pushes him gently down onto the bed, taking her time as she sat upon his lap.

"I've seen many beauties throughout my years," he said placing her dangling hair behind her ears. "None compares to you."

"I'm sure you've said that to all the women you've bed before," she said with a smile.

"I haven't been with as much women as you'd think," he assured her. "But If I had, I've never meant it until now."

"And you said you're not the wooing type," she replied before kissing him gently on the lips. "That's a pretty necklace," she whispered before grabbing onto the golden medallion.

"It belonged to my mother," he said with a soft voice. "It's meant to protect me."

"The one who raised you, or the one who birth you?" she asked.

"So you do know everything," he muttered before getting up off the bed.

"Not everything," she assured him while remaining calmly, folding her legs as she stared at him with his back turned, staring at the ceiling without saying a word back. "Mackenzie you can talk to me," she said. "If you're not ready it's alright."

"My real mother was Rebecca," he said turning to face her with teary eyes. "This necklace belongs to her, it's meant to keep me unnoticed from the Gods sight. When she had me, she took it off and placed it around my neck. That's how Ares found her and murdered her. It was never about me or false prophecies. He murdered her for having me."

"I don't understand," Hailey admitted. "How could she anger him by having you?"

"By having an affair," he said quickly. "My mother was the wife of Ares. When he learned she had betrayed him to my father Hades, he was enraged and ashamed. He killed everyone she knew and loved because he couldn't bare the truth of knowing she chose Hades over him. Every moment I'm alive, I am a reminder of the pain she caused."

"I know it's insensitive for me to say this, but I'm glad she did what she did. If she hadn't, I wouldn't be standing here with the best guy I know."

Mackenzie's face lit up in the matter of seconds when he heard what she said. He turned to face her once again, staring at her in awe. He began walking slowly toward her as she remained right where she was. He lowered himself to meet her face, saying nothing back.

"What?"

"I swore that I would never open my heart to anyone again."

"Please tell me there's a but."

"You've taken my heart without questions."

"You're quite a smooth talker even when you're not trying to be," she told him.

Just when they were to share another kiss, they heard thousands of voices screaming in terror. Hailey got up at once, grabbing hold of Mackenzie's hand. Their building began shaking as if it were built on weak foundations. The sound of thunder rumbling echoed through the city with Loud inhumane footsteps following closely behind.

"What's happening?" Hailey asked him, her hands shaking as she held onto him.

"That would be another monster being sent to do the Olympians dirty work," he confessed. He began dressing himself in a red leather vest with Hailey helping him with the laces.

"Do you have to go out there?" she asked, concerned. "Maybe you should let the army take care of it."

"I'm the one it came for," he explained. "If I don't go out there, many will die until the creature finds me. It wouldn't mind destroying an entire civilization to get to me."

"Is this a glimpse of what it'll be like being with you?"

"Most likely," he admitted. As he finished speaking, they could both hear the army matching down toward the city's gate. When Hailey was all done with the laces, he grabbed his sword from the side of his bed, placing it against his waist.

"Go ahead," she told him. "I'll be fine."

"I'm not leaving you here alone," he told her. "Grab the jar of Hubspur and the bag with the seeds. I'm escorting you back to the castle before I've made a mess of this place."

She knelt and grabbed the brown leather bag, handing it over to him at once before grabbing hold of the jar. He took her hand and he led her out the room, into the corridor, down the stairs and out into the stressful street. They noticed how the sun had went missing, and the clouds were dark as night. Rain fell upon them like tiny pebbles beating against their bodies, lightning flashes as the thunder sang. They watched as some people were busy packing up shops, while others left all their belongings just to go home and hide. He took his time parting their way forward, eventually reaching the hill where the castle sat. Two guards came out behind an enormous bronze gate, almost immediately when she called.

"I'll come look for you when it's over," she promised.

"Sounds good," he replied, giving her a quick hug before leaving her there.
