Lyra sat in her living room with a cup of wine in one hand and honey flavoured nuts in the other. Owen sat next to his daughter while she chewed on her snack. "The answer is still no father."

"I need my license," her father pleaded. "The couple is young and full of love."

"Tell me the names of the people and their story and I'll decide if they should get married."

"I can't," her father told her. "I promised I wouldn't."

"If you don't tell me father, I swear to you that your license will never see the light of day."

"I'm afraid if I do, you won't allow it."

"Tell me or I will tell Laura that you hide your smoke pipe in your boat. I know that's the only reason you go fishing because there is no hook on your fishing rod."

"You can be cruel like your mother when you choose to. Don't you tell Laura anything, this is our secret."

"I'm waiting," Lyra replied.

"Mackenzie and the Princess of Alenore wishes to get married tonight. She loves him and he loves her."

"He was going to marry her without telling me."

"I know you're angry but they make a lovely couple," said her father.

"I love him father."

"I know," her father confessed, "but you rejected him for the King of Earagus."

"Why do you defend him father," Lyra was curious as she gobbled down her drink.

"He is a good man and I consider him a friend. He supported our family when we were hungry and starving. Now it's our turn to support him."

Lyra had left her seat to walk out when her sister walked in. "Where are you going?" Laura asked.

"To kill Mackenzie," she answered. "You should know our father here has been smoking behind your back.

"Father," Laura stared at him with disappointment.

"Your sister is an evil woman, I don't know where her lies comes from."

The Queen of Earagus walked toward the hill where she saw Mackenzie and Hailey drying their hair with their clothes still drenched. "I'm glad to see you're both so happy."

Anger poured from her face while Hailey stood quiet. "I know you're angry with me," said Mackenzie. "I didn't tell you because I knew how you'd react."

"I still love you and I am willing to let you be happy with her. It hurts that you don't trust me or our friendship."

"I was wrong and I'm sorry," he said, walking toward her.

"Don't," she said walking backward. "Our friendship is over. I hate you now."

The Queen of Earagus returns home with tears running from her eyes. Laura sat in the living room while feeding Gideon pieces of Boar. They were both laughing while he fed her pieces of bread soaked in garlic sauce. "Do you want to go upstairs and play with my fur?" asked Gideon.

"We should but I don't think I can find a leash."

"You are a mesmerizing woman. I can't wait to have a few wolflings running around these halls."

"I hate him, I wish he never returned," said Lyra as she entered the room.

Laura left Gideon's side and approaches her sister with a hug. "What happened?" Laura asked as Gideon looked on.

"Mackenzie agreed to marry Princess Hailey of Alenore, he chose her."

"I'm sorry. I know it hurts now but you'll get over it. You are strong and beautiful and one day someone will appreciate you for who you really are." Gideon arose and he left them both as he headed for the door.
