As the ship went closer to the shore, half torn towers began to show from the distance along with golden broken down post and human remains scattered throughout the land. "It's a place of horror," muttered William.
"I will go alone," Mackenzie told them. "I'm not going to risk Hailey's safety."
"I'm not letting you enter that place alone," William told him.
"I can't come," Athena replied. "If Ares and my mother saw me, they could kill her without delay."
"I'm going with you," Silas insisted. "She's my daughter."
"And she's my wife," Mackenzie replied. "I'm not going to risk your life when Hailey's already risking hers."
"William and I will go alone, Athena will keep you company while I'm gone."
Athena nodded her head as Mackenzie and William sat into a small boat while the crew lowered them into the water. William paddled the boat as fast he could while Mackenzie kept his head forward looking at the destruction of the city. "What caused the destruction," asked William.
"Ares did," answered Mackenzie. "This is the last place my mother knew before she died."
They reached the shore while Athena stood on deck watching them as they headed into the ruins. Mackenzie was crossing over bones dressed in diamond chains and silver bracelets. William saw many swords that lay upon the ground and there was none that had a spot of rust on it. He saw a few soldiers still clutching their swords; he knelt before one of them as he noticed his hair was silver with a dash of blue.
"They are definitely your people," William told him as he took the sword out from the corpses grip.
Mackenzie stared at them as he walked further up the city, William followed behind staring at the remains of women and children. They then heard growling coming closer toward them. "What is that sound?" William asked as he held his new found sword firmly in his hand.
"I can't tell," the son of Hades admitted. "I haven't heard those sounds before."
They both stood one behind the other, watching on all sides to see where it was coming from. Behind the rubbles they came. Deep green eyes surrounded them and the creatures who stared at them were bald and grey with a bent back and had pointy teeth and sharpened nails. They wore half torn clothes upon their waist with nothing to show on their backs. Drool began to fall from their mouths as they stared at their victims.
"What are those things?" William asked in a whispering tone.
"Phantoms," said Mackenzie.
"Please tell me they belong to your father," said William as his hand began to tremble.
"I'm afraid not," replied Mackenzie. "They would've knelt to me if they were."
The creatures began running towards them. As they approached Mackenzie his eyes turned red and fire surrounded his sword. William stood his ground cutting them down one by one aiming for their heads. As their heads fell off their shoulders their blood was spilled upon the ground leaving a stain that were black as coal.
Mackenzie held one by his throat and the Phantom began turning into ashes as the son of Hades stared deep into his eyes. One of the Phantoms jumped onto Mackenzie's back while another grabbed onto his foot. Mackenzie looked down and saw the Phantom still had life in his body while his head was still missing. The Phantom began biting on his neck while another by his foot began chewing on his flesh. His sword fell from his grip while he fell upon his knees.
"William," Mackenzie cried out.
William turned his back as he heard the cry, he ran toward him sending his sword through their backs and necks. He pulls Mackenzie up from the ground while the son of Hades grabbed hold of his sword. As the creatures came running toward them, they began falling down one by one. Mackenzie kept his hand upon his neck while William noticed some of the Phantoms were dying all at once.
"What's happening to them?"
"They drank my blood," explained Mackenzie "I have Hades blood running through my veins, remember."
"At least it's useful," muttered his friend.
A dozen Phantoms were left standing and when the son of Hades lifted his sword to attack them, a creature with wings flew above him. It sat on top of the half broken tower looking down screeching. "I wish I had never met you Mackenzie," William confessed.
The creature had feet and hands as claws, her teeth sharpened as a Gods blade, her ears long and pointed. "Is that a woman?" asked William.
Long dark hair ran down her back as she stared at them with her black eyes. Tiny spikes sat upon her shoulders and upon her head was two curved horns. She had rough blue skin and in her hands she carried a sword in one hand with the handle made in the shape of a skull, in the other hand she held a shield with dead men imprinted onto it.
"Hera is awaiting you," she said.
William notices the Phantoms they killed were all getting back on their feet. They were picking up their heads, placing it back onto their shoulders. "Mackenzie their not dead," said William as he tapped him on the shoulder.
"They are already dead," said the creature as she heard what he said. "They may fall but there is nothing that can keep them down. Each time they fall they become much stronger than before."
"If you harm us my father will destroy you," spoke Mackenzie as he stared at his surroundings.
"Your father, who is your father?" she asked as she jumped down from the tower taking her time as she walks toward them both. She took her hand and she grabbed his jaw and began staring deep into his eyes and when she looked closer she saw the river of the damn and souls of tortured victims. "Son of Hades," she whispered. She began kissing him upon the lips and when she was finished kissing him she turned into a beautiful young woman dressed in a white silk dress and there were no claws and no sharpened teeth to scare them off.
The Phantoms began turning their backs walking back to which they came. "You taste like your father," she said.
"I'm the son of Hades too," said William as she stared at him.
"No you're not," she replied. "You're a disgrace, you mortal men all think with your little brains."
"It may be little but it works just fine," William told her.
"What's your name?" Mackenzie asked.
"Megaera," she told him, "one of the sister furies."
"Take me to Hera will you," he asked.
She began walking, taking the lead as she climbed a long wide step built along the hill. Moss, vines, and grass all lay covered upon the stone. As they kept walking they saw half of the castle still standing with tall trees growing from inside of it.
"Why do you hate men?" William asked as he tried making conversation. "Was there one that broke your cruel heart?"
"I would never lay with such unworthy creatures," she admitted. Mackenzie smiled as he heard her speak. "They obey no laws nor do they fear the Gods wrath."
Mackenzie stopped William from walking ahead as Megaera walked further away from them. "You're not trying to lay with her are you?" Mackenzie asked.
"You know me well my friend," said William. "I'll tell you how it was."
"She's not human," argued Mackenzie.
"I know," William said excitedly.
