It was early in the morning when Mary was walking pass King Lionel's chamber when she overheard him and his son arguing. The door was closed shut, but if you stood near the door with your ears upon the iron, surely you'd hear everything loud and clear. Mary did as such and was paying very close attention to each word they spoke.
"We must kill them," said Leon. "We have to take back our throne before it's too late."
"We must wait," replied the King. "We can't start a war with only five thousand men. We have to be smart about this. If not we can lose our heads."
"I can't wait to kill the man who claims to be King. He sits on our throne while we do nothing."
"We must have patience my son. Soon enough we'll have the biggest army the world has ever seen and then we'll be rulers again."
"As soon as I marry Hailey, promise me we'll kill the bastard."
"I promise."
After hearing their brief conversation, she ran into Hailey's room trembling. Hailey was lying there on her bed, but as soon as she heard her door being opened she arose at once. "What is it?" the Princess asked.
"There is something I must tell you," replied Mary, still trying to catch her breath.
"Calm down," the Princess ordered. "Breathe."
"There's a conspiracy to murder your father, the King."
Mary told the Princess all she had heard, missing no detail in her telling of the story. When Hailey was done listening, she hurried in taking her bath and was hurrying along in her dressing. She sped down to the throne room, barging in while ordering a private audience with her father. He hesitated for a moment before agreeing to listen to what she had to say. She told him everything she had heard from her maid, sparing no detail. After he was done listening to her, he remained seated on his throne. He seemed very calm, not even bothered by the whole thing. Hailey stood before him, trying to read him.
"I'm quite impress with the concern you have for my wellbeing," he confessed. "The King and his son means us no ill will. They are only here to seek refuge from the Usurper Lionitis, the King's brother. He has Leon's younger brother in a prison cell."
"Are you sure?" she asked, confused.
"I am quite sure," Silas replied. "After your wedding, I will help them reclaim their home. It will belong to your children one day."
"And what about Alenore?" she asked.
"I don't know," he confessed. "Maybe I'll take a wife and make you a big sister."
"You, still being faithful to mother's memory is the one thing I love about you, don't ruin it."
"Then I won't. Leon will make you happy one day, give him a chance."
"I can't marry him," she said. "He's not the one. Mackenzie knows my secret and instead of casting me aside he helped me."
"I would give you his hand if only it did not come with death," her father explained. "There is more to him than he even knows."
"He's my soulmate," she confessed. "I dream him most nights, even on days when I don't think of him. I believe our future is already set. My power is changing, I no longer see just the past. I'm starting to see pieces of the future. Leon is not there."
"And what did you see in this premonition of yours?" her father asked.
"Nothing good, that's why I need to be by his side. To help him with whatever trials he may face."
"Your gift is warning you," he told her. "If you give yourself to Mackenzie, bad things will follow. You will Marry Leon and that's the end of it. I will not see you die by being in the crosshairs of squabbling Gods."
"So you want me to live a life of unhappiness and complete boredom?"
"Yes," he said immediately.
