Chapter 24
“Taylor! Come on, it’s almost New Year!” yelled Cody, knocking on my door. I sighed and closed my book, another Percy Jackson one.
“Shut up!” I was in a crabby mood, because I missed Kevin, Kristy, Molly…and even Mum. Reluctantly, I tugged my blue hoodie over my PJ’s and ran my brush through my hair.
“Are you coming to watch the fireworks on TV or not?” asked Fiona, opening my door slightly. I walked out and saw Michael, Joe, Cody, Shawn and Brian sitting on the sofa or sprawled on the floor. I grabbed the beanbag and sat, leaning against Brian’s legs. Fiona sat on Shawn’s lap.
The atmosphere was very awkward. I had been avoiding Joe as much as I could since Christmas Day. I know that’s not very nice, especially since he gave me the beautiful car, but knowing he liked me, and realising I liked him back…it’s very hard to take.
It was half an hour until the new year. Every year, this time, I’d be at home in front of the TV, burrowed in my duvet on the large sofa, eating chocolates, relaxing with Kevin and Kristy. I’d be extremely excited.
Now, I was just tired, and wanted to curl up in my bed at home, on the phone to Molly, or play Barbie with Kristy, while trying to chat to Kevin.
“Are you excited for the new year, Taylor?” asked Mike, grabbing a beanbag and sitting beside me. I rested my head on his shoulder and yawned.
“Every other year I would be, but not this one. I miss home.” I muttered.
“Ha! I’m not!” murmured Fee, but only I knew what she was talking about.
In case you’re wondering, Gary went home to his apartment two days ago. I haven’t called Alec, and he hasn’t caled me since we broke up.
There was a knock on the dorm door, and Cody went over to open it. He pulled it open to reveal Alex Zavala, who was standing shyly, holding a box of Cadbury’s chocolates.
“Hey guys. Everyone else in my dorm has gone to another dorm, so I was alone. I was wondering if-…”
“Of course you can! Come in!” Cody grinned, shutting the door behind her.
Wow, he obviously likes her. Judging by the way he made her blush, I’m guessing she likes him too.
“I brought these for us to share.” She held out the box of chocolates and I sat straight.
“Oh, thanks, angel! They’re my favourites!” I grinned and grabbed one, my mood brightening instantly.
Joe and Brian said they weren’t hungry, the lovebirds were eating fries (I have no idea where they found them!), Cody said he didn’t like them, and Alex said she didn’t want any.
Mike and I put half on each of our laps and shared the chocolates.
There were now twenty minutes to new year. I was excited now (the chocolate does wonders).
“Anyone making any new year resolutions?” asked Michael curiously. I lifted my head to find a few hands up.
“Yes! That I’ll be a good boyfriend to Fiona.” smiled Shawn. The couple hugged and Fiona said something simliar, except without the word ‘boyfriend’ in it.
“Ew! Cue gag!” I cried, but I was grinning. I was a hopeless romantic, really. And this was just too cute.
“Anyone else?”
“No one?” I thought I’d seen a few more hands.
“What about you, Taylor?”
“Well, I want to make some, but I know I’ll never be able to keep them. I mean, if you know you’re not going to keep them, then what’s the point of making them in the first place?”
