Chapter 32- THE LAST CHAPTER
I woke up to bright, warm sunlight streaming through the window, and the curtains were neatly tied back. As I sat up, rubbing my eyes, I looked round the room and Molly wasn’t there.
Oh, that’s right, she was sleeping downstairs in Fiona's dorm. Joe had also left, presumably to get ready.
Yawning, I started to lie down again, but something caught my eye. A note, taped to my mirror, read in cursive handwriting:
Dress like a princess today, for your sweetheart.
I grinned broadly, and leapt out of bed, looking at myself in the mirror after I’d taken down the note (and slid it to safety in my drawer). I couldn’t wait for today, because I knew Joe had something planned.
Then, I caught sight of a Taylor Swift calendar as I was closing my drawer, stopped and took it out. What day was it today? Hmm…Sunday the Fourteenth of February. I gasped in realisation.
It was Valentine’s Day!
How could I have forgotten? I didn’t even get anything for Joe! What kind of girlfriend am I? Immediately, I grabbed my phone and dialed Fiona's number, knowing Molly was also there to help.
“Urgh, it is eight on a Sunday morning! What is wrong with you calling at this- oh, hey Taylor!” Fiona sounded really tired, but at the end of the sentence, her tone turned light and cheery.
“Sorry for disturbing you at this time, but I am in a dilemma!” I tried not to screech. “It’s Valentine’s Day, and I haven’t got Joe anything! What should I do?” I perched on the windowsill and leaned my forehead against the cool glass of the window, watching the birds singing outside.
“Oh, gosh! Um…” I heard her whispering something and then someone else saying something a bit louder. “Molly says to quickly sneak out and get something right now…” she paused and then I heard a short squeal. “Or my idea is to make up something about giving him the present later and then get a moment away from him to get something for him.”
I breathed out in relief as I weighed my choices. “Hm…I’ll try sneaking out now, and if that doesn’t work, I’ll go with your idea.” Then something occurred to me and I smiled to myself slyly. “Have you got something for Shawn?” I asked her.
“Of course!”
“Well why didn’t you remind me about today, then?”
“I got it a long time ago because I saw it a long time ago, and decided to get it then, okay? I’m sorry we all forgot!” she defended herself.
“Fine, see you later!” I hung up and sprinted into my closet. I decided to dress up when I returned in about half an hour, so I just slipped on a blue knit dress, black leggings, blue flats and threw my phone, wallet and iPod into a black shoulder bag.
Hurriedly, I brushed out my hair (the ends were still curly from yesterday) and put in a blue flower slide. I looked presentable, so I ran to the door and flung it open. My eyes widened as I took in the sight in front of me, and I swiftly fumbled behind me for the door handle, retreated into my room, closing the door behind me.
Joe, Darren and Ben were sitting on the sofa, playing Wii (who the heck plays a game console at this time in the morning?), and thankfully, Joe didn’t see me. I leant against the door and brought my phone out, an idea flashing in my head. I dialed Ben’s number, and, after a couple of seconds, he picked up.
“Ta-”
“Shut up!” I hissed, cutting him off. “I need you to do me a favour. Can you get Joe out of the dorm room for a minute? I need to get out without him seeing me.”
