Chapter 16
(Skipping forward about a week or so)
Tomorrow was the Christmas Dance. No one had asked me to it yet. Well, I suppose I wouldn’t get to dance because I would be busy singing with the band.
Aiden had gone to jail- the least he deserved. Even though the sentence was for only ten months, at least he wasn’t around to creep and scare us out. Fiona was now Shawn’s official girlfriend after he plucked up the courage to ask her to the dance.
We needed a bass guitar player, and surprisingly, Cody fit the requirements! I couldn’t believe it when Brian brought him to rehearsal. I don’t think Joe was too happy about that, but who cares. Cody was also great, and he made us sound better. I wanted to sing Enchanted by Taylor Swift, too, and they managed to squeeze it in.
I sighed. Cody still thought Joe and I were a couple, so to save the trouble of us going together to the dance, we were going to break up today, during band practice. And after, Joe was going to ask Zara to the dance. What a complete idiotic moron.
I got changed into ripped, faded jeans, black Converses, a long sleeved grey top and a black zip-up hoodie.
I brushed my hair into a high ponytail. I still hadn’t got a phone yet, but I tucked my precious iPod into my pocket, as well as my wallet.
Then, I ate some breakfast, hugged Mike goodbye and set off for the Music Block. I shoved my hands in my pockets and huddled in my hoodie as I walked briskly. It was pretty chilly out here, even though the snow had all melted. I saw Brian’s dark hair and raced ahead to catch him. We talked about random stuff until we reached the Band Room. I pressed in the code and we entered. Cody and Joe seemed to be arguing, and Shawn had left a note on one of the drums- Hey band, I’ve just gone to ask Ms Higgs something. I’ll be back in a few minutes. (Ms Higgs was one of the music teachers.)
I smiled and shook my head, reading it out for Brian. He chuckled and got in position. Cody and Joe were glaring at each other. Why did they both have to be so much taller than me? Even Brian and Shawn were taller than me. I wasn’t even that short! I walked to my position…and tripped. The microphone stand was lying on the floor, and my shoe landed on it. I landed on my butt, and smacked my forehead with my palm.
“Taylor, are you okay?” shouted Brian, trying not to laugh.
Cody and Joe had turned to me with raised eyebrows. I nodded and cleared my throat, getting up. They were all staring at me when I was standing in my position.
“I can't help it if I’m clumsy.” I snapped, and they averted their gaze. “Come on, let’s practice.” Shawn came in and we practised, not bothering to ask Shawn what he went to ask.
We went through the entire list, plus the extra songs, and Enchanted too. By the time we’d gone through them twice, we were all hungry and decided to take a lunch break. I rushed out as they were all chatting and didn’t even notice me leaving. I breathed in the cold air and began walking towards the gate.
I was about to step outside school property when someone called my name. I stopped and wheeled round. A tall, muscular boy with messy brown hair and grey eyes was sprinting towards me. He was pretty handsome.
I smiled at him as he approached.
“Hi Taylor.” He grinned at me. I realised he was in most of my classes.
I tried to remember his name. “Um…hey, uh…”
He laughed. “I’m Alec Logan. We talked a few times in class. Want to get lunch with me?” he smiled again and walked by my side as we made our way to McDonalds.
