Chapter 2

The next morning, I woke up with sunlight streaming from my window. Oh, I forgot to shut the curtains last night. I rolled over and shut my eyes, burrowing under the duvet again, enjoying my sleep and my warmth. That was until I heard loud voices in the dorm room. Sighing, frustrated, I threw back the duvet, and shivered as I jumped out of bed. I checked my watch- only eight o’clock in the morning. It was a Saturday for goodness sake! I slipped on my pink ballet flats, tugged on a purple hoodie and flung open my door. The boys were forming a circle, arguing, but stopping when they saw me, hands on hips, scowling. I noticed Joe was shirtless, with his an arm around a girl’s elbows. She looked like a whore in a miniskirt, and a tank top, blonde hair, messed up like she’d just been doing ‘it’. She glared at me as I shut my room door and stood next to Darren.

“Why are you all shouting at this ungodly hour? It’s eight o’clock on a Saturday morning!” I yelled at them. I added, “And who is she?” I nodded towards the blonde girl, who had her head burrowed in Joe’s chest. I tried successfully not to ogle at his bronzed eight-pack.

“Joe walked out of his door this morning, while we were deciding on what to cook for breakfast to welcome you, with her. He ruined our morning. We were telling them to get out, before they ruined your morning.” explained Michael, crossing his arms.

I sighed and muttered, “Too late.” I asked louder, to the girl, “Who are you?”

She ran a hand through her messy, dirty blonde hair and sniffed, gazing up at Joe, who was smirking at me, not paying attention to the conversation. “I’m Zara Mitchell, Joey’s girlfriend.” She pecked his cheek, making me pull a disgusted face. Then I laughed.

“Okay, Joey, why don’t you go with her somewhere else now?” I said, stifling more giggles.

He frowned at me, his smirk slipping from his face as he guided Zara through the dorm door and into the elevator. She pressed a button, and waited for Joe to join her, but he shook his head, saying he’d call her later. She pouted, but scowled at me.

“Don’t touch my boyfriend, new girl. Otherwise I will make your life hell.” She hissed as the doors slammed shut. Empty threat, I could easily beat her up, and I wasn’t scared by her. Joe re-entered the dorm and shut the door behind him. We were all staring at him.

“What?” he snapped, and glared at me. I grinned without effort.

“Oh, nothing…” I grinned wider as he looked confused. “Would you like breakfast…Joey?”

Everyone burst out laughing as he looked surprised, then extremely angry. “Shut up, Taylor Tawny, and yeah, actually, I do want breakfast.” with that, he stormed into his room and slammed the door with a bang. I wasn’t affected, because Tawny wasn’t a bad name for a middle name.

When we finished laughing, the boys looked at me as I cleared my throat. “Um, I just thought you should know that…I can't cook…at all. Except for shortbread- I can make pretty great shortbread.”

“That’s alright, Tay. I can cook pretty well, if I say so myself. How about chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast? They’re Joe’s favourite.” smiled Darren, patting my shoulder as he bounded into the kitchen. We all cheered and I hurried to my room to change.

I took a shower in my en-suite bathroom (how awesome, we all have our own) and wrapped a towel around myself. I opened my closet and picked out an outfit good for a Saturday: a ruffled, spaghetti strap bodice pinky-coloured top which ended mid-thigh, a dark blue cardigan with white horses which I left on my bed because it was too hot in here, and pink flats. I decided on a navy blue shoulder bag and placed it beside my cardigan on my neatly made-up bed. I brushed out my long hair and noticed it had gone back to a natural side parting, with my fringe longer. I divided my hair into two parts and plaited (Braided?) them on each shoulder. I would go for the cute look with two low plaits, my fringe out, and the strands of hair as long as my fringe on the left side of my head was out too. I tied my plaits with blue hairbands and applied face cream and cherry lip balm. Then, I put pearl stud earrings in my ears and slipped on a ribbon pearl necklace. I checked myself in the long mirror. I looked good enough to make an impression on people.
