❝Sometimes you have to accept that a person's role in your life is over.❞

Head leaning against the headboard of her sister's bed, Cami rolled her eyes, her glare focusing on the ceiling instead of the man sat next to both her and Hope, "He left instead of spending his last hours with us", the latter said, her shoulders slumping down.

The raven haired man, noticing the act, placed a gentle hand on her arm, "He's hurt and he's scared", he noted comfortingly and the twins instantly scoffed, "That's no excuse", they muttered.

Elijah shook his head softly, "Not making excuses" he cleared out, "If anything, he cares too much", he added after a moment and the youngest sunk deeper onto the bed with a scowl on her face.

The blonde sighed, her eyes wandering around the room as the vampire turned to face her fully, "Hope", he spoke up, attention turning to the redhead, "Ira", he said, "You two are his everything", he confirmed firmly, words leaving no place for disagreement, "And without you, he wouldn't be making this sacrifice.

"Do you understand you've accomplished in years what I couldn't in a thousand? This isn't abandonment", he stated in almost disbelief, head shaking as he looked down and realization drawned over him, "He's afraid".

A small silence fell over the twins as their uncle's words sunk into them, the footsteps approaching them being the only source of distractions from their own thoughts, "I'd like a moment alone with my daughters, please", an oh-so-known voice spoke, Ira sparing one side glance before looking away.

"Of course", Elijah nodded once before heading toward the door.

Klaus slowly stepped into the room, his gaze diverting between his two daughters who's intense death stare seemed to focus on only him. The tension was thick and they could all feel it, it was almost suffocating, and for a moment, the father hoped that either of the two would speak up.

He looked down in guilt, "Hope, Ira, please", he pleaded quietly, "Scream, yell, break something if you have to. Just don't look at me like that", he begged, eyes almost filled with tears and Hope frantically shook her head, "This isn't right", she muttered, her sister nodding along, "Not even remotely close to it".

The hybrid frowned, his fingers running through his messy locks, "A father protecting his daughter", he spoke with slight confusion, his tone making the sentence sound like a question, "I'd say that's exactly right", he affirmed and the twins scoffed.

"Elijah was willing to take The Hollow inside of him, he had agreed to it and was okay with doing it, but you didn't let him", the quadbrid growled, her lips tilting down as she squinted at the man, "And what kind of father allows another man to die for his child?", her father interjected.

Miracle, at the sudden interruption, stood to her feet, her gaze accusing as her eyes turned to a furious red, "The kind that loves her!", she shouted angrily, the few candles lit around the room growing higher by the minute at her sudden outburst, it was to be expected.

Klaus stepped toward her in an instant.

"I love you!", he defended just as loudly, his palms cupping the youngest's cheeks, "I love you", he repeated, his head tilting to the side to look at his oldest, "You too, Hope", he stated, arm reaching out of her and she hesitantly stepped closer.

"It's the way of the world", the man sighed, his hold tightening over his daughters, "Children bury their parents", he stated, "It happens every day, every hour", he added, gaze drifting between the two to make sure they understood him, "It's a truth this family has avoided at a cost".

The blonde shook her head, "Yeah, well, we just got you back", she sniffled, "So why does it have to be today?".

Klaus sighed, his free hand gently caressing the blonde's cheek while the other rubbed soothing circles onto the redhead's back, "Listen", he spoke after a moment of contemplation, "I have not lived an honorable life, you know that. But doing this", he nodded, "Taking the darkness into myself so no one else is afflicted by it", he precised.

"That is an honorable death, and I can do that", he assured with a small smile, "I can do it, girls", he chuckled softly, the youngest nodding against his chest, she knew what he meant, he wanted redemption.

She looked up for a moment, and only then did she notice her father's teary eyes which only served as a clue to prove his pure intentions, he wanted to do better, to be better, for the two of them and in that moment, he had redeemed himself from all of the old mistakes he had done in her life.

The man looked down at her before looking back at her twin, "Because you two have helped me feel something that I never thought was possible", he spoke again, a small sigh leaving his lips as he reached to wipe the small tear that fell out of his eye.

"Unconditional love", he whispered, "My daughters. My heirs", he smiled with shaky lips, "You two are my heart and soul", he stated, "My own hope and miracle".

Tongue poking at the inside of her cheek, Miracle looked up, her father instantly looking down at her with a small smile and she frowned, her gaze almost distant.

"What's wrong?", the man whispered in confusion, his daughter shaking her head with a small chuckle, "They're talking about some April's fool prank in Copenhagen", she spoke, her twin looking at her father curiously, "What did you do?".

Klaus grinned, "Compelled a circus troupe to follow Elijah around for a whole 36 hour, one of my best ideas of revenge", he let out, the youngests bursting out in laughters at the thought of their uncle's reaction.

The redhead, in between her snickering, asked, "The hell did he do to you?".

Her father shrugged, a content smile settling on his face as he shook his head fondly, "Would rather keep that to myself", he inquired, the two groaning at his words which only made his grin grow wider.

"I think we should join them", Hope suggested after a moment, her eyes hopeful as she looked at her father with a look to which he couldn't say no, "Let's go then".

Miracle stood to her feet in an instant, the older two looking at her with an amused and confused look, "Kol brought bourbon, am I allowed to drink?", she let out with an excited voice, her father instantly shaking his head, "No".

The quadbrid pouted, "I can handle my liquor, and I'll only take a rock glass", she pleaded, Hope looking at her in disbelief and chock, "Since when are you an alcoholic!", she exclaimed with a small laugh, "And a smoker", her father added quietly, the teen girl looking at him with surprise.

"Would rather keep that to myself", she quoted before rushing out of the room leaving her sister with the hybrid.

Klaus looked down at her with a questioning look, fully aware that she knew the story to the cigarette pack hidden under her twin's pillow and she sighed, "She says that it helps with the voices", she shrugged before following after the redhead.
