•chapter 1•
"I might be proud but at least I'm proud of something
you've taken pride in becoming noth-"
I looked up from the box I was unpacking to see my mom standing at the doorway to the basement with a disapproving look as Josh Franceschi's melodic voice stopped filling the former, and now present, silence.
I smiled softly at the woman in her mid forties who had a body better than mine. "yes ma'am?" I raised my eyebrows.
"It's been 2 weeks and you're still not unpacked?" She asked rolling her eyes. The woman acted more like a teenager than I did sometimes.
I shook my head softly causing the slight curls in my hair to bounce. "No ma'am, I'm sorry."
Not everyone has an ass kissing personal assistant that will do anything for them.
I mentally finished my sentence while maintaining a fake smile. She huffed and pursed her lips into a thin line before turning around and walking back out of my room. I sighed thankfully and turned my music back on.
Not even five minutes later my father knocked on my door before entering. "Hey pumpkin," He smiled widely at me. I felt bad for him having to deal with a wife like my mom sometimes. "Hey pops." I commented before continuing to pull polaroid pictures and posters out of a small bag of mine.
He motioned towards my bed. "mind if I sit?" God, he was the best. I smiled broadly and shook my head. He sat at the edge of my bed and picked up one of the pictures looking at it before setting it back down and looking at me and sighing.
Oh shit. That's not good.
"School starts tomorrow.."
Called it. Who owes me money?
I nodded slowly. "You gonna be okay kiddo?" He looked almost as nervous as I felt.
"I-.... I think so." I chewed on my bottom lip softly and looked down at the ground. Who was I kidding? I'll probably end up in the bathroom by second period.
He tilted my head up before hugging me tightly. "I know it won't be the same without Jenna, Tay and Beau but they sent this and I figured I would give it to you to have on your first day." He pulled away from the embrace and handed me a small heart locket with a few music notes engraved into the front.
I opened it with a half smile as I started at the small pictures of my best friends and I. My dad kissed my forehead before quietly leaving the room closing the door behind him as Nine In The Afternoon started playing softly.
I am going to die.
------
I checked my reflection once more in mirror before fixing my Glamour Kills tank and nodding softly at myself.
I bounded up the small flight of stairs quietly, not really wanting to be noticed. I grabbed my headphones from the dining room table and ran out of the front quickly. I slowed down when my converse started hitting the pavement signaling that I was in the clear of getting seen by my parents.
I put in my headphones as I got to the bus stop and put my phone on shuffle. I couldn't help but laugh lightly as Break Stuff by Limp Bizkit started playing.
I saw a boy with blonde hair and bright blue eyes skipping my way with a boy with dark brown hair and a dark completion rolling his eyes while trudging behind the first. A muscular boy with sandy blonde hair held back by a black and white bandana was running frantically after the two but ended up passing them up and ran to me instead.
As he got closer my eyes got more wide due to him reaching a hand out at me. I calmed slightly as he slowed down and only pulled out one of my ear buds grinning.
"Hiya! I'm Ashton Irwin and those two are my friends Luke Hemmings and Calum Hood. I really like your shirt." He rambled out even though he seemed slightly out of breath. I nodded slowly at him as the bus pulled up.
Ashton grabbed my hand and pulled me to the back of the bus with him and sat me down in seat 20 before plopping next to me grinning.
"We're gonna be friends."
-------
The bus ride mostly consisted of questions being thrown at me from Calum and Ashton while Luke just smiled and stayed quiet only talking occasionally.
Calum had grown almost as fond of me as Ashton had seeing as he linked arms with me the moment we got off the bus at school and shoved through the crowded hallways with his much larger frame leading a path for me. Ashton and Luke stayed behind me and beside me as Luke informed me that they were getting me my schedule and locker information from the front office.
Once we got through the masses and to the front desk Luke grinned at a lady sitting in an office chair in front of an old looking desktop. "Morning Ms Laura" he chirped.
"Morning Lucas" she replied smiling. "how may I help you boys today?"
"Well," Ashton moved me from behind Calum and into the view of the rather pretty woman. "this is our new friend Cassie and she's completely new here so she doesn't have her locker info or classes." she nodded and smiled at me.
"What's your last name sweetie?"
I opened my mouth to respond but Calum had beaten me to it. "Check." he smiled down at me proudly. If they kept speaking for me I might actually be able to survive this school year.
She printed out a paper and handed it to me before helping other students. Luke plucked the paper from my hands and skimmed over it.
"All four of us have English, biology, lunch and choir. Cal you get her to yourself French and then Ash and I have her in math." he grinned down at me. "so you won't be alone at all little missy." I laughed lightly and smiled.
Luke took my hand and lead me down a few halls with the others behind us to the choir room. He sat at a chair in the second to back row pulling me into the chair next to him. Ashton plopped on my other side and Calum sat behind us.
A woman with purple-ish red hair and bright green glasses clapped her hands at the front of the room once everyone of the thirteen chairs were filled besides one.
"Has anyone seem Michael today?" she asked glancing around the room as a chorus of no's and such responses sounded out.
"Thank God" Ashton laughed as Luke nodded in agreement. Just then a boy with bright red hair and tattoos waltzed into the room through the double doors.
"Speak of the Devil and he shall appear.." Calum muttered from behind me causing me to smile softly.
The teacher looked around the room once more after Michael had taken his seat. She began to talk until her eyes landed on me and a smile appeared on her lips. "Well hello there, I didn't know if was receiving a new student."
I could practically feel Calum's grin as he leaned forward and set his hands on my shoulders.
I glanced around and saw Michael smirking at me then winked once he caught me looking at him.
"This is Cassandra."
