Days seemed to pass by as it usually does. Nothing can pause the clock hands from ticking after all. Even if billions of money are spent over it, it would still be loitering in its own rhythm giving not a single strand of care whatsoever.
The day, when Jungkook's parents left for Busan, was the very start of another hectic week. Monday soon changed its name to Thursday. Three whole days and nights swiped out of the calendar yet it was all the same for the young boy whose heart was not even aware of its destiny. One should ask him, how it is to stay alive without a heart. He celebrated the funeral of his pumping organ with the death of his reason to breathe which is Areum.
What's the use of living without a heart when it would only be like spending hours as a dead soul or zombie? That's probably the most menacing life one can ever think of, isn't it? So was the same with Jungkook who was barely breathing, not to live but to die. He knew that his clock was ticking away too quickly and it would soon come to a halt as every other thing on this planet. Every object, living or non-living has an end likewise humans who are not immortals.
Jungkook's heaven was nothing much special than the other days. Bleached white plastered walls that met the ceiling not so high. Curtains were not drawn as the afternoon was no less gloomy than dusk. The light was not present from which the curtains were supposed to shade the corner. Grey clouds overshadowed the city casting its dim shadow over the lives of people on the crust. The weather was cool however not particularly comfortable.
The trees did not shiver to prove as if some storm was about to come over to rip their coats off. Birds and every other little living creature hurried to their shelters as their sense organs detected the arrival of something unusual and which might also be pretty dangerous. Bad luck does not always reflect warnings provided if it is not meant for one who does not give a glance.
You're the colour of love which I wanted to see with my own eyes
But now that you're gone
Everything is just a faded life.Jungkook blended two or three shades of colours that he was going to use for his new portrait. The sketched canvas displayed him with Areum at the seashore, holding hands, when the sun was saying goodbye to the world. He applied his brushes to the specific spaces, filling them gently with every stroke. His orbs confiscated the brush to smudge the distracting areas until it was slowly satisfying his artistic brain.
His throat felt dry still he did not stop. Now his thirst was not more significant than what he was currently working on. It was not just a picture that he wished to create, it was also his dream that he wanted to come true but unfortunately, his fate did not allow him a chance to do so.
The very first time, when he spotted the beach silhouette art at Areum's place, the suggestion of the turning of the wall art into reality, popped into his memory. Something that made his dream work trigger was just another hit back of his fate. As he was gradually paving the painting with his wonderfully sculptured arms, he felt a grizzly stitch in his pharynx. He started coughing which was quite painful than the usual ones. It was as if his lungs were about to explode sooner or later.
He looked for his inhaler but couldn't find an impression of it. So he let go and gulped down sips of water through his food pipe. That instantly provided him with some relief for the moment but once again it was not what his destiny meant to serve.
Though he was given an interval in the round of coughs, he did not look to be all perfect as he used to be before. His starvings snatched away the energy particles from his frame, he was just a mass of muscles and bones with little tubes supplying blood to its different parts. He was much more rugged, slender and skinnier than earlier. His sockets were tired as hell since he could not have peace of mind even when in sleep mode.
His sleep was gone so was his peace, his love, everything. Losing all his hopes for a better living he skipped meals, surfing any chatbox or even visiting the outer world beyond the campus of his residence. He became abstemious. The darkening climate densified his mind even more. Flashes of the older memories screened before his orbits.
How I wish I could fulfil your last wish of having a trip to Muchangpo beach. You're selfish that you make me regret this every single moment. Your absence has turned this air too toxic to breathe. Jungkook mumbled to himself while drenching the canvas with paint.
As he was yet to finish the artwork, his lungs poked his respirations again. He coughed out vigorously nonetheless he was determined to concentrate more on his fingers. His coughs grew louder, heavier and agony shot through his vessels still his grieve stricken cerebrum was never to leave off the thoughts of the lost lady.
Jungkook covered his huffs to protect his creation from the spilling of his saliva but then even his body gave up in response to his strict actions. Blood spat out of his muzzle that rolled down following the corners of his lips. He paused for a moment to catch his degrading health issues, his bleeding mouth. I don't know but maybe this is what I like now. This revolved in his mind since he knew that he was already on the verge of his extinction. He carried on with what he was performing, but his coughs with what he never left their influences.
The paintbrush completed the last finishing stroke. Jungkook stared at the completed picture as a light beam brushed his edges. Jungkook scanned the canvas when out of the blue, his chest heaved and he toppled upon the plated floor. His pants grew larger and deeper with every fraction of a second that advanced. His body squirmed from side to side as he felt his lungs clenching together. The brush escaped out of his grip as he gasped with heavy breaths. His struggle with his failed lungs proved his eagerness to not see the world again with his soulful eyes, to face the kingdom that brought him his unsatisfactory rehabilitation.
The violent gasps resulted in his lungs rupture causing intense suffocation. The painful blisters that formed along the path of his nerves made his muscles lose all the responses for the toughest shingles that followed.
Dense red plasma oozed out of his mouth and nostrils that flooded the floor, inking his cheeks, edges and hair. He had a last glance at the frame and his lips parted. He found the hologram of his Areum standing before the open window, her lips playfully declared her painful peace. The last puff that he took, he chose to end it in a smile.
The room grew silent. No more pants echoed in the arena. A teardrop trickled down the corner of his eye as he rested his body, embracing the peace that surrounded him. The smile was yet curved on his beautiful lips when his soul was getting ready to retire its position.
The paintbrush that accompanied his resting palm got soaked in the pool of blood that sauntered on its way framing the surface of the floor.
A ringing tone floated from an electronic gadget whose screen flashed the word 'eomma'. A wind hushed through the open window of Jungkook's room. It flipped the page lying on his study desk with the shiny ring over it. The ring cascaded down the table's surface and landed on the ground with a light metallic 'ting' noise, glittering in the dim light.
The sky camouflaged its most depressing nature to depress the world to its extreme but the glory of Jungkook's portrait would never vacant its beauty. The curtains fluttered by the rude contents of the wind blowing outside. Darkness surrounded the easel stand before which Jungkook's lifeless body faced the ground, those black doe orbs who never forgot to dance with excitement, which always had a hidden bright star in it, got shut lost in the midst of a dense black hole forever.
