In You (excerpt)

By Glenn Jones

'Cause in you I found perfect love

That one of a kind most dream of

I never thought it could be

But in you I found everything I'll ever need

There were some days, girl when I

I felt so alone thought I'd die

But now that is past, I know we're gonna last

Because we were meant to be, girl, you're all I needed

You'll never know what you've done for me

You've open my eyes, now I see

Janet

I'm heading home from the grocery store after I ran into Michelle. I am so glad that she and Beyoncé finally got together. Kelly and I had been shipping them for years but neither had made a move. When we found out they were finally together Kelly and I cheered and jumped for joy. Of course they looked at us like we were crazy but we didn't care, our friends were finally together. As my thoughts veer away from Michelle and Beyoncé, they land on my woman, she's perfect for me. Kelly is the love of my life and I don't know what I would do without her. We've been together for three years and it's been three years of bliss. Yes we have our arguments but it's never been to the point that I want to leave her. Let me take yall back to when we first met because we couldn't stand each other. It's so funny now but it wasn't back then.

Flashback

I sat at my desk not really doing anything. I was zoned out and stressed out from both work and my home situation. Shawn was working my last nerve and I was beginning to slightly hate her which wasn't good. We both knew what needed to be done but were too chicken to do it. Little did she know today was the day I decided that I needed to be free and she had to go. I attempted to do work in my big corner office but I barely got anything done. I looked up at the clock and it was quarter to four, quitting time. I shutdown my computer, put away the client's files I had been working on and made sure my office was nice and neat. I couldn't work in a chaotic space. I loved that I got home by five most days. That's what happens when you own your own accounting firm and you can make whatever hours you choose. I had been renting space in a ten story office building close to town. It was the perfect location for new and existing clients. I had about ten people on staff and I needed to hire a new administrative assistant.

I grabbed my coat, purse and work bag and headed in the direction of the elevators. I called out to Gil to make sure the door was locked when he left. That man was something else, he was a workaholic, sometimes he didn't leave the office until nine pm. That wouldn't be me unless I was rushing to meet a deadline, which was very rare. I like to keep on top of my work. When the elevator doors opened I looked up and into these hazel orbs, and then a pair of deep brown ones. The darker eyes were mesmerizing, it wasn't until hazel eyes asked me if I was getting on that I realized I hadn't stepped foot on the elevator. Both women were beautiful in their own way but brown eyes called out to me. She was taller than my short ass, with smooth cocoa brown skin and a beautiful smile. I'm a sucker for a smile and eyes. I realized after a moment that I knew hazel eyes, she owned the design firm a few floors up in the same building. Her name was exotic or something, shit, I'm horrible with names.
