JORDAN BAKER POV

NEXT DAY

I'm at my locker minding my own business for once, but I heard someone say, "Oh look, Khalil. It's bitch made Jordan again."

I turned around and saw Khalil and his squad. Darnell's the one speaking up this time. What a surprise.

"And look, it's the guy who always hides behind Khalil. Darnell," I jeered back. "And I'm surprised that you're speaking up for once. You'd think that you didn't even have a mouth."

Darnell balled up his fists. "You're not funny."

"I'm not laughing." It is funny though. "And Khalil wasn't laughing either when I punched him in the face. So I would reevaluate who you call bitch made."

Darnell defended Khalil. "You're still the bitch made one in my eyes."

"Really? Because I pretty much proved that Khalil is."

Now Khalil defended himself. "You ain't prove shit, pretty boy!"

"Oh, but I did. You couldn't handle what I was dishing out so Darnell had to save your ass!"

"You're acting like I told him to do that! He did that because that's what homies do!" Khalil argued.

"Yeah, that's what they do when they see their homie getting fucked up! You were getting fucked up!"

Then Khalil lunged at me, but my savior came running. "STOP!"

I blinked my eyes in disbelief at Latrelle. He's actually helping me?

"The fuck is going on here?" Latrelle demanded to know.

"The fuck you doing here? Since when do you come to Jordan's defense?" Khalil questioned back.

"He's my brother."

Khalil looked between us angrily. "Oh y'all bros now?"

"More than you know," Latrelle muttered.

Khalil just snickered and stepped closer to Latrelle. "You know, word around the street is that y'all live together now. Why is that?"

"None of your damn business!" I spat.

Darnell defended Khalil again. "I would watch how you talk to him!"

"Like I said, he's bitch made."

Khalil challenged that. "Really? Because I see that you don't drive that little mustang no more. Why is that? I scare you that much?"

"You're not scaring a damn thing over here!" I said.

And I was ready to go at it with him, but Latrelle pushed me back. "Okay, chill! Khalil, just leave him the hell alone!"

Khalil looked Latrelle up and down distastefully. "Damn. Now I see why we dropped your ass. You can never mind your damn business."
