BILLY BAKER POV

NEXT DAY

"Now I'm sure you know this already, but I'm your athletic director. You and I are going to coordinate together when it comes to scheduling the football games. I'm also going to be providing guidance and direction for..."

I drowned out my athletic director's voice. Jordan's outburst from yesterday is still on my mind. He's fed up with Olivia and I. He won't even look our way.

He's mainly mad at me though. He's upset that I'm taking his sister's side and not his. But there's a reason for that.

If only he knew...

"Billy? You listening?"

I cleared my throat and played with my collar. "Y-yeah."

My director gave me a doubtful look.

I spoke honestly. "Sorry. No. But now I am."

"Mhm. As I was saying-"

But he silenced when one of the students walked past the office. He quickly rushed to the door. "Asher! Come here!"

My director wrapped his arm around the kid and forced him into the office. He introduced us. "Asher Adams, this is your new coach Billy Baker. Billy, this is one of our finest players, Asher Adams."

But little did he know that Asher and I already know each other from a very long time ago. That's why he's hesitating to shake my hand.

"I know Billy's an ex NFL star, but you don't need to be shy, Asher! Speak to your coach!"

Asher stuttered as he spoke. "Oh uh, h-hello sir."

"Hello, Asher. I thought you moved to New York-"

He cut me off. "I really don't wanna talk about it."

Asher swallowed hard and gave me a pleading look, so I respected his wish.

"Well Asher, Mr. Baker is the new football coach so I thought that you two should get acquainted before practice later."

"Yeah we're acquainted all right," Asher said lowly.

I nodded. "Well you should get to class, son."

"Yeah."

Asher headed for the door, but looked back at me. "And Mr. Baker, can we not tell Jordan about this? About me being back?"

"Uh, yeah sure."

He nodded gratefully and left.

My director looked at me. "You knew him already?"

"Yeah, he and my son grew up together."

He shrugged. "Regardless, I think you're going to do great here, Billy. You're really going to whip those boys into shape and bring us home a championship!"
