MONSE FINNIE POV

NEXT DAY

Latrelle and I are at my locker and he just finished telling me what went down yesterday at the Baker household. Apparently they found Shawn's gun and now Latrelle's grounded.

I put my books into my locker. "You seriously got grounded? This is the worst time to get grounded, Latrelle!"

"I know! And Billy took away my phone yesterday, but he gave it back just in case I get into trouble. Now I gotta go straight home after school as punishment."

I just shrugged. "Maybe that's for the best. Shawn is still out there."

"But he shouldn't be! He shouldn't even be breathing right now!"

"Well no one told you to suck at hiding a gun!" I scolded.

"I wasn't expecting them to go into my room!"

I tilted my head at him. "They're Bakers. They're nosy."

Latrelle leaned against the other lockers, exasperated. "Where's Coop?"

"I don't know. Probably somewhere tending to her neck."

I can see Latrelle's face heating up. "God, I'm so angry! Shawn put his hands on her and now he's gonna get away with it!"

"Like I said, let karma handle him. Or maybe it's time for us to finally come clean."

Latrelle is against that idea. "Monse, if you say that one more time-"

I cut him off. "No I'm serious! Every day that passes by, this situation gets worse and worse for us! You don't even have the gun anymore! How are you gonna get revenge now?!"

"I don't know and that's the shitty part. I feel so lost."

"Well what ever you decide to do, you know that I'm gonna be right by your side, right?"

And then he pinched my cheeks. "And that's why I adore you."

I swatted his hand away and laughed. "Oh shut up! But we also need to talk about Jamal exposing you for being a Baker."

Latrelle isn't worried about that. "No one seems to care anymore, so I'm good. Everyone's too busy talking shit about Olivia, Asher, Jordan, and Chloe."

"What are they saying?"

"They're saying that Chloe and Olivia are hoes, and that Asher can't fight or that Jordan can't fight."

That made me frown. "Damn. I'm sorry. Your siblings are going through it right now."

Latrelle frowned too. "Yeah and I'm going through it too. But I'm not gonna let my parents stop me from doing what needs to be done. I'll figure out a new plan."

"Okay. Just let me know what it is."

I finished putting my books away and closed my locker. I swung my bag over my shoulder and saw Ruby at his own locker, glancing over at me.

So I see that he's back from suspension. Unfortunately. But that's fine because I want answers. I need to know why Ruby did what he did. I need to know why he betrayed me.

"Uh, I'll be back Latrelle."

I started walking towards Ruby and Latrelle noticed. "You're actually gonna talk to his fake ass?!"

"I need to know why he did it."

"I told you why! Because you chose me!"

"I want to hear it from him! I'll be back."

And then I approached Ruby and he didn't even look my way. "I see that you're back from suspension."

"Monse, leave me alone. Go back to your new best friend Latrelle."

"Oh I will. I have one question to ask you though. Why'd you do it?"

Ruby spoke harshly. "It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. But I forgot that you're not that smart."

I'm not even bothered. "You can diss me all you want, it doesn't faze me. Just tell me why you did it."

"Because you're fake and you deserved to feel pain!" Ruby admitted. "Someone needed to give you a taste of your own medicine, so we did!"

"Was it your idea or Alexa's?"

"Alexa's. And I didn't even wanna do it at first, but I saw how close you and Latrelle were so I said fuck it, why not? She doesn't give a fuck about me anyway," Ruby said angrily.

"And you don't. You never did. Because if you were really my best friend, you wouldn't have chosen Latrelle over me, just like Cesar said!"

Hold on, Cesar said that? "He said that?"

"He sure did. But you're hanging out with him and shit." Ruby just scoffed. "You're so dumb, Monse."

"Cesar avenged me. That's why I forgave him."

"And you wanna know why he did that? To win your heart back. And it damn sure worked. So you know what? I applaud him. He proved that you're one easy bitch," Ruby hissed.

Now he's going too far. "Okay, what you're not about to do is disrespect me!" But Ruby just stuck up the middle finger at me and walked away. "RUBY!"

"Leave me the hell alone, Monse! I don't want anything to do with your ass!"

"Can't we just forget about all of this shit and go back to how we used to be?!" I asked. "We have all of this beef for nothing!"

"Why the fuck would you wanna work things out after I called you a Dick Hopper?!"

"You were angry and Alexa took advantage of that. And I have this whole forgive but don't forget thing going on, so I'm willing to let bygones be bygones. Because I really do miss my best friend."

But Ruby's done with me. "Well I'll pass."

"What?"

He got in my face. "Alexa has been more of a friend in two weeks than you've been in years. So yeah, I'll pass. I hope you have fun with Latrelle though. But heads up: that's not gonna last at all."

Oh really? Well I guess I just have to prove him wrong then.
