ASHER ADAMS POV

Jordan wanted to hang out at his house so I walked in and saw his mother pacing around aimlessly. She seems deep in thought.

Then his dad spoke to Jordan and I. "Go upstairs boys, and stay there please. We have important business to handle down here."

We didn't even question it. We just went up to Jordan's room. When we got to the top of the stairs, I saw Olivia coming out of her room. She froze when she saw me and I froze too.

I cleared my throat and greeted her. "Hey Liv."

Olivia's still mad at me but she pretended as if everything was okay so that Jordan doesn't catch on. "Hey."

And then she disappeared back into her room.

Jordan furrowed his eyebrows at Olivia's now closed door and then at me. Then he shrugged and went to his room. I followed him.

"Why are your parents so antsy?" I asked Jordan.

"Probably because of Latrelle. They're tryna figure out who shot him."

"Still? It happened two weeks ago," I said.

Jordan shrugged. "We're Bakers. We don't give up."

"You guys sure don't." I chuckled. "So what are we supposed to do in here?"

Jordan sat down on his bed. "Actually, there is something that we need to talk about. John."

There goes my happy mood. "Yeah, I'd rather not talk about your rich best friend."

"Why are you jealous of him, Asher?! Because his parents still have money?!"

I scowled at him. "Who the fuck said I'm jealous of him?!"

Jordan scoffed. "Oh please don't act clueless right now. John told me about your threats. You said, 'I'll always be Jordan's first and only best friend. Remember that.' Really?"

"Did I lie?"

"John is my best friend too, so yeah, I guess you did."

"He doesn't get to be your best friend, Jordan! He wasn't there since day one!" I argued.

"Asher, you LEFT! So I made a new friend!"

That hurt a lot. "Wow. So I'm that damn replaceable to you?"

Jordan saw the hurt in my eyes and sighed. "That's not what I'm saying."

"No it is what you're saying!" I shouted. "You didn't even know my situation, Jordan! I moved because I had to, not for the hell of it!"

"And the fucked up part is that we didn't talk for two years, but I still never found myself a new best friend because I was still holding on to you, Jordan! But you replaced me like I was nothing!"
