MONSE FINNIE POV

"I've honestly never seen Jamal so mad, Ruby," I began as he walked me home. "He was going berserk on Latrelle!"

"As he should. Latrelle is nothing but trouble."

I looked down at the sidewalk as I walked. "Yeah but Latrelle did something to Dwayne, but Jamal is so tight lipped about it. Why?"

Ruby shrugged. "Protecting his dad maybe? I don't know, but if Jamal is this mad, then Latrelle did something bad. He doesn't play when it comes to Dwayne."

"He sure doesn't."

We stopped in front of my house and I said, "You sure you don't wanna come in? My mom would love to see you."

He objected. "I know, but I'm good. I got my own mom I gotta see."

I hugged him tight. "Well thank you for walking me home, best friend."

"You're welcome, best friend. I'll text you later."

"Bet."

Ruby walked away and I put my keys into the keyhole, but of course my ex boyfriend had to show his face.

"MONSE!"

Cesar ran up to me and I swear I wanna scream.

"Cesar, why are you in front of my house?"

"We need to talk."

I shook my head. "We don't have shit to talk about, Cesar! What don't you understand?!"

He sighed and took a step towards me, but I immediately backed away. That pained him. "Are you scared of me or something?"

"Scared of you, no. Scared of getting my heart broken again? Hell yeah!"

I turned my key in the keyhole, but Cesar stopped me. "Wait, wait, wait! Monse wait, okay?! I'm not going to break your heart! All I need is one last chance to prove that to you!"

"No."

He continued to beg. "Monse, I wasn't in my right mindset that night!"

"Are you now?"

"Of course I am!"

"Then how come you're still entertaining Alexa? And checking Olivia out?" I asked seriously, because I really don't understand. But all he did was laugh like shit is funny.

"I'm not laughing, Cesar!"

He stifled his laughter. "I'm laughing because it's not that serious!"

I scoffed. "It's never serious to you. Everything is a joke to you, including our relationship."

His face fell flat. "I didn't say that."

"You didn't have to, Cesar. You clearly like to let your eyes wander and I don't want a man like that. So like I said, we don't have shit to talk about. Now get away from my house."
