Corridors of the Echo Creek academy were bustling with people. Sixth period just finished, so most kids were prepping to go home after a long, boring day at school.
But one classroom was still shut. The teacher was one of those 'the class does not end until I say so' types. But eventually, they had to release kids from their torture. And when they did the first to bolt out of the classroom was a girl.
At first glance she was unassuming. Wavy light blond hair tied in a ponytail. See green eyes hidden by thick-framed glasses. A freckled face with a slender nose. She wore simple and comfortable clothing: a set of overalls and a pair of sneakers. A person you would not pick out from a crowd.
But now she was definitely attracting attention. The girl was dashing through the academy's corridors as her eyes darted around. She was looking for two things. A ridiculously long golden blond braid and a well-kept black bob. And thanks to anything that's sacred, she found them next to each other. The girl stopped placing her hands on her knees as she tried to catch her breath.
"Jackie, are you ok?" Star asked squatting to see the girl's face.
"I'm fine," Jackie mouthed, "Hey, Janna," she waved at the other girl.
That was Janna, in some ways opposite of Jackie. She was someone who grabbed attention. Perfect warm brown skin and shiny black hair showed how well she took care of herself. A cute and puffy green dress hid lean but well-defined muscles. In many ways, Janna exuded confidence and her appearance showed it.
"With that running, you aren't just breaking the school rules. You're breaking the laws of physics," Janna smirked, shutting her locker.
"I'm not that fast," Jackie laughed, straightening her back.
"Still, why run? Is there anything important?" Janna asked, folding her arms.
"Important? No. I just wanted to ask advice from Star."
"Advice from me? What is it?" The princess stood up, straightening her puffy flowery shirt. Angie gave it to her as a present, so Star tries to keep it all nice.
"Well... you see," Jackie muttered, glancing at the nearby locker, her face turning red. "A few days ago I figured out something..."
"What did you figure out?" Star asked.
Janna squinted as a cheeky smile cropped onto her lips. "Are you in love, Thomas?"
Jackie shook her head up and down, cheeks reddening even more.
Star and Janna leaned in closer.
"Oh, who are they?" Janna asked, sparks of excitement dancing in her brown eyes.
Jackie, now utterly red, grabbed her freckled face. "It's Marco."
The spark of excitement in Janna's eyes was put out with the bucket full of: "What?"
"That's wonderful," Star smiled, the heart marks on her cheeks rising. "You're in love with your best friend! It's like something out of a romance book."
"Well, that's the main problem. I'm friends with him for so long. I'm not even sure he realizes I'm an actual girl," Jackie explained. "What if he thinks I'm one of the guys? What if he can't of seeing me as anything else?"
