The door swung open, two sets of legs rushed in.
"Try that," Marco pointed at an elaborate mirror on the wall. "I'll look for the book," The boy mumbled, looking through the room.
Jackie rushed to the mirror. "Any idea how this thing works?"
Marco looked at Jackie, his face scrunched in thought. "None," Marco shook his head.
A distraught sound left Jackie's throat as she studied the mirror.
Marco turned to his task. He looked through the small room, trying to figure out where the book of spells could be.
Star's place was quite ordinary for someone who was a magical princess. Barely anything changed since this room was the guest bedroom. The bed, closet and a simple riding desk were all the same. The only two additions that Star made were the ornate mirror and countless shelves filled with well-organized books. And even the bookshelves were local. Star and Marco's dad went together to buy them and install them the non-magical way.
Marco stared at the books. The tome of spells was way too big to be on any of those bookshelves. Unless it could change sizes?
Marco quickly checked all the bookshelves, looking for the ancient, ornate cover of the magic book of spells. The boy found texts that ranged from poetry and fiction to complicated textbooks on the political history of Mewni. On the writing-table even lade the book on St. Olga's school's history. The book was open on one of the redacted pages, and next to it lied a small notebook with extensive notes. But, Marco couldn't find the book of spells anywhere.
Marco grumbled to himself, irritated. He gave a second glance to the room. It was orderly, so there was no obvious place where the book of spells could be hidden. The closet, Marco thought to himself. The boy's cheeks turned red as he thought about stumbling upon some ting private in Star's closet. He shook his head.
Star's bed grabbed Marco's attention. It was a simple two-person bed with his mom's best sheets and a few stuffed buff unicorns place on top.
Marco peeked under the bed, lifting off the sheets that draped to the ground. The boy was stunned by what he found, his face frozen in amazement. The space was stuffed with a variety of well-organized weapons. You could find almost anything you would want there. Sword, spears, bows, even an axe lade deeper in a corner. And all those weapons seemed to be ornate, well-crafted pieces. Marco was so astonished he almost missed the giant magic book lying in the middle of this vast collection of weapons.
"Bingo," the boy proclaimed, dragging the book out.
Marco grabbed the book, thrilled by his success. Except it wouldn't open. The lock on the book's cover would not let it budge. Marco stared at the ancient book of spells. Carefully, the boy knocked on its cover.
"What are you doing?" Gloss asked, floating next to the boy, her hands behind her.
Marco scurried away screaming, smacking into Jackie with such force that the girl toppled to the ground on top of him.
"Oh, no, are you two ok?" Gloss rushed to the kids.
"I think I'm fine," Jackie said, lifting herself up.
"Your knee," Marco's muffled voice came from behind Jackie. The girl's knee was rammed into Marco's face.
Jackie quickly moved away, and both she and Gloss rushed to Marco. "Did I hurt you?" Jackie asked.
Marco scratched his nose. It hurt a lot. "I'll be ok," The boy mumbled.
Gloss smiled, her face relaxing. "What are you two doing in Star's room?" The blue spirit of the book squinted.
