With a sharp turn to the left, Jackie cut the corner. The speed was so great that Gloss nearly flew off Marco's shoulder where she was perched. The boy managed to grab her last second.

And yet, this impressive speed was not enough. The butterfly was right behind the kids, tailing the bicycle, ignoring anything and anyone around.

Star outstretched three of her hands. She was close, almost grabbing Marco. With a whisper and a gesture, Gloss cast a spell that bombarded the butterfly with magical manikins.

Marco glanced back, the creature bursting out from the manikin pile, sending the ethereal body parts flying. "Shit, Let me guess, no way to go faster?" He asked Jackie.

"No!" The girl screamed, sweat running down her brow. "If you want it to go faster, spin the pedals yourself," She added annoyed.

"Sure," Marco glanced back. Star was chasing them again. "But I don't think we have time to switch. Gloss, can you do anything to help Jackie?"

"I could try, but we need to think of something new. Even with magic, we can't go that much longer," Gloss explained, throwing a ball of energy at the butterfly. She easily dodged that.

"Any suggestions," Jackie asked.

Gloss glanced back at Star. "We could try losing her and hide."

"Or I could just try kissing her. What if that works and all of this will just be over," Marco wondered aloud, looking back at Star. The gap was becoming smaller and smaller.

"I doubt that will work, kid," Gloss said, throwing another spell to slow down Butterfly Star.

Jackie grunted irritated. "Exactly, listen to the ancient book spirit, Marco. She knows better."

"Well, how can you two know that? What if it works. All of this mess can be over in an instance." Marco explained.

Gloss frowned, worried. "I just don't want you to risk-"

"For fuck's sake, Marco, you know she does not like you. She likes Tom and that's it. You have no chance with her, so just fucking move on!" Jackie screamed out, exhausted fury filling her.

"People can like more than one person! Is it so wrong to fucking try?" Marco declared.

"Because there is no chance for her to like you. She is way out of your league. For god's sake, she is royalty, and you're a dude, there is no way you two can work out. And don't fucking forget, she will be moving to a different DIMENSION when all of this is over!" Jackie screamed. "Be real and move on," Jackie said, her breathing turning deeper and more exhausted.

Marco frowned. "Fuck you," Marco screamed out, moving Gloss off his shoulder and onto the bike. "This is my life, and I will do what I want," The boy declared, jumping off the bicycle.

"Nooo!" Jackie screamed, staring at Marco. Distracted, she rammed into a nearby bench, sending herself and Gloss flying.

The kids found themselves in a large open area of the school. The circular lobby cut through three floors of the building, reaching out to a large skylight.

Marco stood still, staring at the butterfly.

The creature rushed to Marco and halted still as she reached the brunette. The purple butterfly stared at the boy, a soft smile on her face. The same smile that Star would often have. But instead of being warm and reassuring, it was creepy and unsettling. The creature circled Marco, silently observing him, the beating of the wings slowing down. The sound almost pleasant.

Marco looked back at the creature circling him. The purple face was right next to his, the pale light of her eyes illuminating his face. Taking the moment, Marco closed his eyes and planted a kiss on the girl's cheek.
