Chapter 48

Peeta pov:

Gloss raped Katniss. I left Katniss's house. Not because I'm mad at her. But because I'm going to make Gloss pay. I go to Gloss's school but before I called Finnick and told him that Gloss hurt Katniss. Finnick obviously came with me. We see Gloss and Finnick right runs to him and starts beating Gloss. I guess all I can do is sit back and watch. Wow Finnick is really angry. I pull Finnick off Gloss and we leave. I remember Katniss she must think I hate her. I told Finnick to go to school and I will get Katniss. Finnick drives me to Katniss's house and I knock on the door. Katniss opens it and sees me.

"I thought you hated me, you left before I can talk" she says.

"I could never hate you" I say. We go back on the couch and she looks away from me.

"I'm sorry I lied to you" she says.

"Why did you lie?" I ask.

"Because I thought you would hate me and I was embarrassed. I knew I could fight him off but I was scared and I let my emotions get the best of me" she says and I hug her.

"Did you get pre-" I ask and but before I can finish she shakes her head. She takes a deep breath and her voice has been pretty shaky today. Not because of her tears.

"Katniss what happened to your chest. Yesterday I saw you and Delly fight. Did she hurt you?" I ask.

"Yeah she kicked me really hard in the...um...things" she says. I am confused for a second but I soon know what she's talking about.

"We should get to school. But I'm going to go wash my face" she says and goes to the bathroom. She comes out a few minutes later and we get out bags. Her face lights up.

"It's your birthday tomorrow on Saturday!" She says. I completely forgot.

"Oh yeah" I say. She laughs and we get in the car. I drive since she didn't want to and when we get to school Finnick runs to Katniss. He gives her a hug.

"What was that for?" She asks.

"I just really love my sister" he says. The bell rings and we run to class. Katniss sits down and I know she is lost in thought. I smile at how easy she can get lost in thought. I began to think of Gloss and Gale. Katniss has had a rough past. The rest of the classes fly by abs soon it's the end of school. I have a shift at work today. Katniss drives me to the bakery. Katniss walks in with me and leans on the wall.

"What?" I ask.

"I just want to stay" she says. I shrug and the bell from the door rings. I see a man and a young girl. Maybe the girl is 4. The man buys her a cookie and he goes to the bathroom leaving the girl to sit and eat her cookie. Katniss smiles at the young girl. The girl jumps off her chair and goes to Katniss.

"Hi hi" says the girl enthusiastically.

"Hey there" says Katniss smiling.

"What's your name?" Asks the girl.

"Katniss" says Katniss.

"Ohhh katniss is a bewtiful name" says the girl and she says the word beautiful funny.

"What your name" asks Katniss.

"Sofia" says the young girl.

"Well isn't that a pretty name" says Katniss and gives the girl a warm smile. The girl jumps up and down. The man walks out of the bathroom and sighs.

"I'm sorry I don't know you but you seem nice and you babysit my daughter I have an emergency at work and my daughter seems to like you" says the man.
