I stare out the window as it begins to rain. Then my brother, Damian, says it's cold, so I turn up the heater in our old black Suburban, the only thing we have left of our mom, who died of brain cancer, three years ago. I am Dalilah Daniels. I have three younger siblings. I am the oldest having turned seventeen a month ago. Then there are the twins Audrey and Austin who were born when I was seven.
We are moving to Montana. We left Colorado because our dad couldn't stand staying in our old house, since it reminded him so much of our mom. The car finally stopped in front of a big two story, white house with a black roof. It has a big white, screened in porch with stairs leading up to the porch, with the porch leading to the door. As soon as our dad unlocks the front door, we all hurry to get in and look around.
As soon as you enter the house there is a foyer. Then to your left is the living room. To your right there is the kitchen. Straight in front of you there is the laundry room. Right next to the laundry room door, there are stairs. The house was already was stocked full of furniture when we bought it. I go on upstairs to check out the six bedrooms and two bathrooms. Everyone goes upstairs, to pick their rooms.
The first room you see when you come up the stairs is the one Austin picks. Then next to Austin is another room which dad picks. Next to his room is a bathroom, which dad says is for the boys. Next to the boys bathroom, there is another room, which Damian picks. Next to his room is another bathroom, for the girls. Next to the girls bathroom is two more bedrooms. Audrey got the room next to the girls bathroom. The one next to hers was going to be the guest bedroom. I got the last room.
My room is at the end of the hall, farthest from the stairs. Everyone starts checking out their rooms, so I decide to do the same. I walk in my room and study it. The walls are white and the floor is carpet. There is a wooden dresser on the wall across from the door. Next to that is a wooden desk with four drawers and a stool under it. Next to the desk is a veranda.
A veranda is like a patio that hangs above ground. Mine has glass doors. When you open those then there is a wooden roof covering half of the veranda. It has marble railing. The floor of it is cement. Next to the veranda is my bed. At the end of the bed is a smaller desk. I smile, satisfied with my awesome room.
