"To all the students of this school. You must be surprised with the sudden news. This has been decided after many meetings with school staff and the board of trustees."
It was the last day of the sudden break, and the message was sent to every student in every dorm. It didn't seem very strange at first, but it changed once they read it. When Alan and Todd found out, they were shocked, though one of them less so. The human knew things weren't going well, and Kibi's accident only exacerbated it. It didn't really help his case that he now had to talk to Gouhin the next night and was considering leaving Cherryton altogether.
"Starting next year, Cherryton School will be segregated into separate classes and campuses."
But the killing blow was what was announced next...
"Also, all interspecial clubs will be suspended starting next month."
Alan wasn't sure how to take the news, as things shifted for him multiple times since he started. Even through it all, the Drama Club was there in one way or another. In a sense, it was the gateway for the human's experiences at Cherryton— Adler, The Ghetto, The Meteor Festival, the carnivore gathering. Even in-between those events, he found a lot to like about the club. How everyone was happy to be together, the sense of community and how nice they all are. He genuinely loved that.
But what if it was for the best..?
As the human roamed the halls to the club's room, he pondered the question. It was true that there were qualities to the club that he liked and it impacted him greatly, but he had to think beyond that. This wasn't a world he was born into, and it wasn't one he fully understood. At one point, he might've gone against the idea of segregating the school wholeheartedly, but it was different now. There were more things in his mind to think about, and they all pointed to the answer he dreaded to say out loud— especially to the Drama Club.
He stopped walking and touched his neck, Damn it. I think I really do—
"Alan-san!"
He turned to see a familiar tiger followed by a small sheep, "Bill, Els...did you guys hear about it, too?"
"Yeah, we were just on our way to the club! Can you believe it?!", the large male said with fury. "There's no way we're just gonna let this happen, right?"
Alan hesitated, "W-well..."
"What are we waiting for? Let's go!", the sheep suddenly chimed in.
Just like that, the human found himself being pulled down the halls. He could feel a pit starting to form deep inside him, the conflict in his mind quickly becoming a storm. Would it be okay for him to just go with it? It'd be better than the alternative, right? Besides, everyone else is probably the same way! It wouldn't matter if he told the truth or not, so what would be the point in even saying it?
But..., he thought. Would it really matter to me if I told the truth? Would my opinion even have any weight to them? But if I go with it, I'd be lying to myself. Damn it!
The internal tennis match kept going for what felt like countless minutes. For each point one made, another would come up to clash and it would worsen the battle. He wanted the Drama Club to stay together, but he knew it wasn't as simple as him just not letting it be suspended. If he supported them, would it be enough for him? Would simply being there for them suffice?
Alan only stopped once the three of them reached the club room. It looked like the rest were already voting on what to do, as they had a board split down the middle with one side for keeping the club together and the other for going with the announcement. It was no surprise that the former had the majority, but it still made the human's anxiety skyrocket. It was now or never...he had to make his choice.
