I finally manage to open the wrapping paper and see a large velvet box. I open the lid and I'm in pure shock. "Oh my god," I whisper in disbelief. I look at Sapphire who has the same expression as me and we both look at Hunter. His eyes are fixated on me. I look back down at my present. It's a necklace and earring, silver sapphire set. It looks like the set I saw years ago, but shinier. I lightly graze my fingertips over the necklace before I look at Hunter and ask "how did you know?"
"I saw you looking at it, a couple of years ago," he answers.
I look at him and my throat begins to grow a lump, while my eyes collect a pool of tears, blurring my vision. I blink and a single teardrop falls down my cheek. "If you don't like it, I'm sorry."
I place the present gently on the coffee table and walk over to him. I plant my lips on his and give him a kiss showing how grateful I am. "I love it," I whisper. He smiles at me before placing the softest of kisses on my lips. I hop off of him and grab the presents I got for everyone.
Sam opens his present first. I got him some English sweets because I remembered him mentioning how badly he wanted to try some. "Thanks, Mack," he said while taking a bit into a Yorkie. Then, Sapphire opened her present from me. "MACK" she yelled before hugging me tightly. It was a bottle of Château Lafite Rothschild, one of the best red wines in the world. That's one thing Eric and her both had in common, their love of fine alcohol.
It was Eric's turn to open his present from me. A huge smile grew on his face once he realized what I had bought a crate filled with Guinness beers. "I know how much you loved them back home." He laughed before walking up to me and giving me a hug. Finally, it came time for Hunter to open his present. I was slightly nervous as to how he would react. I gave the present and smiled at Sapphire. She knew exactly what it was, as I had to get her to find it. He finished unwrapping and he smiled at the present.
"What is it?" Eric asked. He turned the photo around to show Eric. "Oh my god, wow?!" Eric laughed. He took the photo off Hunter and said "I remember that day."
"Me too," Sapph replied laughing.
I looked at Hunter and walked over to him, sitting on his lap. "It's a picture, with extremely fond memories behind the holidays and the moment." I kissed his cheek, while his thumb grazed my thigh. "I love it, Mackenzie. Thank you." We stared into each other's eyes, getting lost in each other. The immense moment being interrupted by the sound of Sam's phone ringing. He answered the call and had a brief conversation. "Yeah, sure I'll be there," he said before hanging up. He looked at Sapphire and asked "Babe, a bunch of us are going to go to a bar and celebrate, you wanna come with?"
Sapphire looks at me before replying, "I'm gonna stay and help Mackenzie clean up, you go and have fun though." He kissed her cheek before leaving.
Sapphire and I walk off into the kitchen, while the boys sit on the couch and talk. "Why didn't you go with Sam?" I ask her.
"Honestly, I would love to just spend time with him alone. All of his friends are dickhead wall street boys who think they're Leonardo DiCaprio from that movie."
I nod along understanding. I throw the towel and finally ask her the question I've been dying to ask. "Sapphire? How are you dealing with Eric?"
She looks at me and says, "It's actually been okay. We've spoken about everything and I think we have a mutual understanding."
"Really? When did you guys talk?" I question, curious.
"Well, we spoke about how we've been during the car ride back from the dance studio on your birthday. Then we spoke when we came back to yours and Hunter went looking for you. He knows I'm happy with Sam now and he respects that."
"Okay, but how do you feel?" I ask, knowing she's trying to avoid the topic.
"I'm fine." she lies
I look at her with the expression saying 'i know you're lying'
"Okay, it's a little weird. I love Sam and I would never do anything to hurt him at all, but I find myself in these moments looking at him and thinking about stuff. I want to be with Sam, I do."
I understand exactly how she is feeling. That's how I felt when I was with Zander and Hunter came back into my life. You know you don't want to hurt the person and you actually want to be with them but you can't deny the feelings you have when you have so much history with the other. We both walk back into the living room, seeing the boys deep in conversation. They didn't even notice us come in. Saph and I look at each other with a devilish smile across our faces. We run-up to the boys screaming, which catches them off guard and for both of them to fall off the sofa.
Sapphire and I laugh loudly, to the point where our stomachs hurt. We finally calm down and watch the boys stare at us. They look at each other and share the same look, Saph and I shared. Sapphire and I start walking back slowly before the boys chase us. Finally, Hunter throws me over his shoulder and Eric throws Sapphire over his shoulder and they throw us on the sofa.
The sound of laughter is engulfed around the whole place, making this one the best Christmas days, I've had in a long time.
