I grab Mackenzie's hand and walk down the stairs with her. Upon arriving in the dining room, I hear everyone cheer 'Happy Birthday'. Mackenzie's mum is holding a birthday cake. She walks towards me and tells me to make a wish. I look at Mackenzie and close my eyes. I think of my wish in my head and finally blow out the candle.

"What did you wish for?" Mackenzie asks. I give her a small smile, and kiss her lips softly. "If I tell you, it will never come true." Mrs Brown places the food on the table and we all sit in our chairs. Mr Brown clears his throat and faces me. "So, how's America treating you?"

"Good." I replied. "The company has been doing extremely well. We're thinking of expanding soon." I informed him. "So you just happened to bump into my daughter, over there?" he interrogates.

"Yes sir. It was quite the coincidence."

He hums and takes another bite out of his food. Everyone looks at her father and then back at me. "How did it happen exactly?" he interrogates again.

"Dad!" Mackenzie scolds. "What?" he questions completely oblivious to Mackenzie's annoyance. "Will you stop?" Mackenzie pleads.

"I'm sorry Hunter. But you do understand? You hurt my daughter once. What's stopping you from doing it again?" he questions.

"I was young Mr Brown. I didn't know what I wanted. I won't sit here and lie and say I regret America because it helped me out a lot, but I do regret hurting your daughter, and I can promise you, after living without her in my life for all those years, I won't allow myself to live like that again." I admit. Mackenzie's mother looks at me with a smile and Eric laughs quietly.

I look at Mackenzie and her eyes are filled with love and nothing but. I mean every word I say. I look back at Mackenzie's father and he looks at me with curiosity. His wife holds his hands and his expression softens. "I understand what you mean." he replies to my admission.

"Just don't hurt her." Mr Brown begs.

"I won't," I comforted.

After hearing Sapphire and Eric's wedding story for the 50th time and eating a slice of cake, Mackenzie and I helped clear out the dishes. She stands by the sink and washes all the dirty plates, while I dry them. I know she wants to ask about my mother, but she's scared of my reaction. Guess I'm going to have to drop the ball.

"So about my mum..." I begin. She carries on washing the dishes and faces me. "I want to go see her tonight." I admit. "Okay." she replies. She finishes cleaning the last dish and walks over to me and cups my face. Her lips sit on mine and I hold her waist. "I'll be with you."
