"HUNTER!" I yell as I hold my swollen belly and scream out in pain. Hunter rushes into the room and his eyes look like they are going to pop. "DON'T JUST STAND THERE!" I yell at him. He runs towards me and helps me to my feet. He grabs the baby bag and walks me out of the house. "FUCK!" I scream. The pain is overbearing and I feel like I'm going to drop any second.
"Baby's coming." he whispers, before kissing my lips. "Baby's coming." I reply with a cry. My emotions are weird. One second I'm angry, the next I just want to cry a stream of tears filled with joy. Hunter races to the hospital and lets Sapphire and Eric know to be there. My mum and dad are already there waiting for us. We finally arrive and the nurse helps me into a wheelchair. She wheels me into my room and helps me up on the bed.
"Remember baby, the breathing exercises. In and out." Hunter says while showing me his deep inhales and exhales. I look at him with an annoyed expression. He finally stops and backs up. The doctor walks in and lets me know she has to examine how dilated I am. "I'm sorry Mack, but you're only 7cm dilated. It has to be 10." she informs me.
"So put something in there and stretch it!" I yell. Hunter pats my head and hums, which is actually extremely soothing. The doctor explains all the stuff we need to hear and leaves us be. "What's the difference? 7cm is basically 10, why can't she JUST ROUND UP?" I yell towards the door.
"Okay, Mackenzie, here have some ice chips." he offers while holding a plastic cup in front of me, which is filled with ice. I take a handful and chew on them. "I love you." I whisper to him. "I love you too." he replies and kisses my forehead.
After a couple of hours, Sapphire and Eric visit. We make small conversation and the doctor comes back in to examine. "Third time lucky." she states after examining me. "You're 10cm dilated, time to push." Everyone except Hunter leaves the room and the doctors and nurses surround me.
"Okay, on three you gonna push as hard as you can okay?" the doctor tells me.
I nod and she counts to three. I begin to push hard but it feels like my vagina is being ripped apart! I scream out in pain and squeeze tight on Hunter's hand. After a couple of seconds I fall apart and give up to take a breather.
"You're doing amazing, baby." Hunter reassures me. "I'm gonna need you to push again, Mack." the doctor says.
"YOU PUSH!" I yell at the doctor in a cry. "I'm sorry." I cry again apologising. She reassures me it's fine and asks me to push again. Again on the count of three, I push again, this time harder, after a while I feel like the pushing has become easier. "One more push Mack." the doctor yells.
"One more baby." Hunter kisses my lips and helps me up. I let out all my strength in this last push and I finally heard a cry. "Congratulations mummy, it's a boy."
"It's a boy?" I cry loudly while sobbing ugly.
"It's a boy." Hunter confirms. The doctor hands me my baby and I hold him close to my chest. He cries loudly but soon comforts me. Hunter kisses my forehead and keeps telling me how proud he is of me. "Do we have a name?" the doctor asks.
I look at Hunter and smile. We both look at the doctor and say in unison "Leo."
"Leo, bring you and your sister out to the garden." I yell at the top of my lungs. Leo runs towards me with a football, but no Sage to be seen anywhere. "Where's Sage?" I ask him.
"She's with dad." he informs me. I scoff. "Fine, go outside and play with Jackson and Josie." I order him and he runs out. I walk into the back room and see Hunter sat on the desk with Sage sat on his lap. I watch him as he builds the lego castle with her and she laughs when he accidentally drops a piece. "Sage?" I called.
"Momma!" she yells and runs to me. I laugh and hold her tight. "You're going to miss your own birthday party." I tell my daughter as she fusses with her party hat. Leo may have my honey brown eyes, but Sage, she has her father's emerald jewels. "Daddy was showing me how to build the castle, it has 4 towers because I'm four years old today!" she tells me, while holding up four fingers.
"Yes you are, but the bouncy castle outside is going to go soon, so let's go play in that castle." I told her. She jumps out of my arms and runs towards the garden. Hunter walks up to me and kisses me softly as we hear our daughter cheer through the house.
"Hi mummy." he whispers.
"Hi daddy." I replied. His smirk builds up and I see his pupils dilate. We both walked out to the garden. Sage runs to her father and jumps onto him. "Come on, let me take a family photo." Eric yells.
Leo comes running by my side and Sage remains in her father's hold. I look into my Hunter's eyes and get hypnotised like I used to back in the days. Eric takes the photo and the kids go back to playing. Hunter comes up behind me and hugs me tight. He kisses my cheek and laughs as he watches our children dance together. After everything that happened, and all the battles we faced, here we are, with our family, happier than we have ever been. We did it, despite the questions of the ifs, the buts and the maybes.
