It's the day. It's the day that my bestfriend gets married. My palms are sweating from being nervous for her. As much as I adore her for letting me be her maid of honour, it scares me to think that my bestfriend will finally have someone else in her life. After making sure everyone is sitting in their seats, I walk over to the bar to grab a glass of white wine for her. She's more than stressed, and today should be a calm day for her.
"Hi, can I get a glass of white wine for the bride?" I asked the bartender. He gives me a nod and pours the wine in the glass. "Oh and a shot of tequila for me, thanks." I add. He places the wine glass in front of me, along with the small shot glass. I grab the shot and take it back, helping to ease my nerves. "Scared?" I hear a voice say behind me.
I turn around and see Hunter standing there in a beautiful suit. Groomed to perfection. I give him a shaky nod and walk towards him. Sapphire decided to invite him to the wedding, as he helped pay for the honeymoon, and the dress. It was only fair, plus Sam needed an extra groomsman as the one who was supposed to walk me down, got food poisoning during the bachelor party. Something Sapphire wasn't exactly happy about.
Hunter walks up to me and hugs me tight. It's like his touch is a form of medication and all my anxiety floats away as soon as my brain knows I'm secure within his arms. "You look beautiful, Mackenzie." he whispers. "Thankyou." I whisper back.
"I'm just pissed that Zander is here with Anezka." I told him. He caresses my hair and kisses my forehead. I can't exactly not attend my best friend's wedding, and Sam's best friend can't attend either. I was supposed to walk with Zander, but since he's here with Anezka, it seems like they will walk together instead.
I let him get ready and I make my way to the bridal room. I knock on the door lightly and walk in. There she stood, in her beautiful wide bridal dress and her face done up like a queen. "Everyone's in their places, just waiting for you." I informed her. I hand the white wine to her and she gulps it all down in one go. I laugh at her nerves. "Ready." she states. I give her a tight hug and let her know that it's showtime. She laughs and I make my way out. Let the wedding begin.

The music starts and the doors open. Kate and her groomsman start walking forward first. Then it's Mia and her groomsman. They each walk with their wedding partner, arms linked and in sync with the music. After two more bridesmaids, it's finally Zander and Anezka's turn. It's stupid, because she's not even wearing the same as all of us bridesmaids. Finally, it's time for me and Hunter to walk. He places his arm out for me to curl onto, and I do so willingly. We walk down and watch everyone observe us. I see Sapphire's family, smiling largely at us. They were so happy to hear Hunter and I were together again. I look at him and stare into his eyes, with a huge smile on my face. He whispers quietly, but just loud enough for me to hear and says, "Can't wait for the day, our friends will do this for us." My eyes widened at his words. I know he's just saying it for the sake of banter, but it's still really early for us to be talking about this. I give a fake smile and luckily for me, it's time for him and I to part.
I look down and stand next to the pillar at the front. Finally everyone stands, and heads turn to the door. My mind is racing and repeating the words he said to me. Marriage is a big commitment, which I'm not ready to do just yet. I do love Hunter, but marriage isn't anything special. I probably shouldn't think that while my bestfriend is about to walk down the aisle, but for me it isn't it. People can still be together and not promise themselves to each other on a piece of paper. You do that in person.
I look up and see my bestfriend walk down, perfectly in sync with her music and all eyes are on her. I look Hunter's way and see he's only looking at me. I break eye contact and watch as my bestfriend and her father make her dreams come true. Sapphire's father hands her over to Sam and she stands in front of him. I look at Hunter again and see his eyes never left mine. Not once. Sapphire hands me her bouquet of flowers and holds her hands in Sams.
The officiant asks everyone to sit down. "We are all gathered here today, to witness the union of Sapphire May and Sam Michaleson, in marriage. Today, as you join yourselves in marriage, there is a vast and unknown future stretching out before you. Today, as you join yourselves in marriage, there is a vast and unknown future stretching out before you. The possibilities and potentials of your married life are great; and now falls upon your shoulders the task of choosing your values and making your dreams real. Through your commitment to each other, may you grow and nurture a love that makes both of you better people, a love that continues to give you great joy, and also a passion for living that provides you with energy and patience to face the responsibilities of life."
"I believe you have both prepared your own vows?" the officiant asks Sapphire and Sam. They both nod and Sam takes a piece of paper out of his inside blazer pocket and begins to speak. The whole time my eyes stay on Hunter. I don't hear a single word that Sam says to Sapphire. I just imagine a big wedding with Hunter and people watching us. Marriage is beautiful, yes, but I love Hunter. Shouldn't that be enough. Since when do I have to do a big event to tell him that I love him? Why does everyone need to see our love, when I know it's the most important thing for me? Finally Sam finishes and it's time for Sapphire to say her vows. Sapphire looks around and clears her throat. "Marriage. It's a way of not only showing that you love each other to yourselves, but proudly wearing it. Like a badge. It's saying that I love you so much, in a way that you can't do with anyone else in life. It's loving someone and only them with 100% confidence in the relationship they have built together. That's what you promised me when you got down on one knee and asked me to be yours." She pauses and looks around. She looks at me and her face is something I can't quite explain.
She looks back at Sam, and the words that leave her mouth are nothing that any of us expected to hear. "But I can't promise you that." Everyone gasps and people begin to mumble between each other. Sapphire begins to cry and carries on speaking. "I can't promise to love you and cherish till death do us part, when I know myself my heart is not whole with you." Holy shit! I look at Hunter and we both share the same reaction. "I'm sorry." She apologizes to Sam and runs down the aisle and out the doors. Everyone looks around and Sam follows to find her. Hunter grabs my arm and we both run to find her too.
"What the fuck?" Hunter exasperates me. I run into the bridal room and see that she's nowhere to be found. I grab my phone and ring her repeatedly. Hunter walks in and sees me pacing back and forth. I look at him and watch as he observes my moves. "Voicemail again!" I yell. I look at Hunter and he knows exactly what I'm going to ask. "You need to call Eric and see if he knows..." I whisper. Before Hunter can speak, Sam barges into the room.
"You know where the fuck she is, Kennedy! She's with your little friend and I need you to ring him and get her now!" Sam yells. Zander stands behind him and watches everything unfold. "I don't know if she's with him or not!" Hunter yells back. Sam looks at me and charges towards me. He pushes me into the wall and yells in my face. "Of course she would follow your slutty footsteps! I should have known you were bad news the moment you fucked your ex behind my bestfriends back." I try to push him off me but his strength is too much for me.
My head hits the wall and just as I am about to push him harder, I see him getting dragged across the room and his body landing on the other wall. Hunter runs up to him and leaves punches right, left, centre and repeat. Sam's face starts to bleed. I finally set my mind straight and I yell with all my power "HUNTER!"
I sob and sob but he doesn't hear me. I go up to him and touch his arm. Hunter looks at me and his eyes soften. He stands up, over Sam's body and speaks, "You stay the fuck away from Sapphire. You stay the fuck away from Mackenzie, or next time I promise you it won't be just your body and blood. It will be your body, six feet under."
Hunter grabs my face and looks around for any bruising. After finding nothing, Hunter and I walk out of the wedding venue and start making our way to Eric's apartment. Halfway there, I get a phone call. I look at the caller ID and see Sapphire. "Saph? Where the fuck are you? Are you stupid!" I yell.
"Mack, I'm okay. I'm with Eric." she states
"What?" Hunter and I both yell in unison.
