My girlfriend Ariana and I walked out of Starbucks hand in hand laughing about a joke she just told me.

"Y/n? Is that you?" I heard a familiar voice say. I turned towards the voice and was shocked to find the green eyed beauty I called my fiancée not too long ago looking at me.

"Lauren." I said softly. I didn't have anything to say to her. She broke my heart and left me and I still wasn't over it. "This is my girlfriend. Ariana." I told her.

He face fell and she furrowed her eyebrows but quickly put a fake smile on, "Nice to meet you. I'm Lauren." She said shaking Ari's hand.

"Likewise." Ariana said.

"Y/n, I really need to talk to you. Alone." Lauren said turning back to me.

"I have NOTHING to say to you, Lauren." I turned around and started to walk away. Lauren grabbed my arm gently.

"Hey, please keep your hands off of her." Ariana said calmly, yet firmly.

"Sorry. Y/n, please! I need to talk to you. Please just give me 10 minutes." Lauren pleaded.

I sighed, "Lauren I-"

"Please?" She asked looking at me intently.

I closed my eyes tightly, "Okay." I whispered opening them.

"I'll wait in the car, okay?" Ariana kissed me on the lips quickly and walked away.

"Shall we go in here?" I asked pointing to the Starbucks. She shrugged and followed me inside. We sat down across from each other at a table.

I didn't say anything. I just sat there and looked at her, waiting for her to say something.

"I'm so sorry. For everything. I'm so very sorry. You need to know that there was a reason I left." She said desperately. I just looked at her trying not to show the emotions I felt.

"And? What was the reason?" I asked ignoring her apology.

She looked down at her hands, "I needed to get better. You of all people know I needed help." She paused.
"I left to go to rehab." She confessed.

My eyes widened, "You actually went?" I asked smiling. I had been trying to get her to go for years.

"Yeah, I'm almost a year clean now." She said.

"I'm so proud of you." I said truthfully. I got up and gave her a hug before sitting down again.

"Thanks. I wanted to get better for you. For us. That's why I left." She said looking at me intently and looking back into her eyes, I knew what she was saying was true.

"Lauren, I don't want you to want to get better for me. You need to do it for yourself." I told her.

"I did! I do, but only because you made me want to get better. You make me want to be a better person. Y/n, I've tried to move on, but I can't. I can't move on. I can't love anyone else because you have my heart and I can't give to somebody what I don't have. I love you so much and I'm in love with you. I'll never ever love someone as much as I love you." She confessed.

My mouth hung open in shock and a tear fell down my face. I quickly wiped it and closed my mouth.

"Well, I'm glad I helped you but I'm sorry. I can't be with you." I said putting back on my emotionless look.

Tears began to fall down her face and I couldn't sit there and watch without breaking down and holding her in my arms and kissing her, so I grabbed my jacket and got up.

"Nice seeing you again, Lauren. I wish you the best." I smiled at her and started walking away. Lauren grabbed my arm softly.

"I wish you the same. I hope she makes you happy, honestly. You deserve so much better than me. I love you, y/n."

"I love you too, Lauren." I said softly. I kissed her forehead and walked out quickly. 'Don't cry. Don't cry. Don't cry.' I told myself.

I got in the car and stared straight ahead trying not to cry.

"You okay?" Ariana asked.

I nodded and closed my eyes. I took a deep breath and then opened my eyes.

"Who was that girl?" She asked softly.

"An old friend. That's all she'll ever be." I said, more trying to convince myself than her. "Just an old friend."
