Two years later

I was running through the park when I ran into someone after looking down for a quick second.

"Sorry!" I said before looking up.

"It's fine." Said that familiar husky voice.

"Lauren." I mumbled and sighed before looking up to meet her gaze. Curse those stupid emerald green eyes that make my heart race.

She put her hands in her pockets and looked down, "So how have you been?" She asked. She looked back up at me waiting for my answer.

"I've been okay. You? How long have you been sober now?" I asked her, genuinely wanting to know.

"I'm okay. As good as I can be when I don't have you in my life." She said and I looked down, "and I've been sober for like three years now."

I looked up and smiled at her, "I'm so proud of you."

"Thanks, that means a lot. So, uh, you got some time to talk?" She asked nervously.

I didn't have anything else to do so I shrugged and followed her to the park bench.

"How are you and your girlfriend?" She asked.

I furrowed my eyebrows, "We broke up a year ago."

"I'm so sorry to hear that." She said.

"I bet you are," I said laughing, "but, seriously, it was a mutual thing. I think we were together for convenience, rather than because we were in love and we both knew it." I confessed.

I looked into her eyes and I felt butterflies. I hadn't felt them in a while.

"Oh god." I mumbled and looked away quickly.

"So what about you? Have you found that special someone?" I asked quickly recovering and wiggling my eyebrows at her.

"Yeah."

"Well! What's her name?" I asked.

"Y/n, it's you. I meant what I said at Starbucks years ago. You have my heart and you always will. Look me in the eyes and tell me you don't feel anything for me." She said looking at me intently. I looked back at her.

"Lauren, I-" I couldn't say it. I looked down at my hands and played with my fingers.

"Look me in the eyes and tell me you don't feel anything when I do this."

She cupped my face in her hands and connected our lips. My brain told me to pull away but I couldn't bring my body to do it and instead I started kissing back.

I felt all the old feelings that I used to. It felt like fireworks were exploding around us. It felt like it was just us two in the crowded park.

I finally pulled away and looked down.

"Dammit, Lauren!" I cursed and put my head down, closing my eyes.

She put a finger under my chin and lifted it up, "Y/n, open your eyes."

I shook my head.

"Please? Open your eyes and look at me."

I did as she said.

"I want you to look at me and tell me you aren't still in love with me."

"I hate you for making me love you so much." I whispered quietly and a tear fell down my face.

Lauren pulled me into a hug and I relaxed into her body, "You're in love with me and I'm still in love with you. Let's try this again. Please? I'm begging you to give me another chance. "

I sighed, "Lauren, honestly, I'm scared. I'm scared you're going to leave again and I'm going to be left way worse than I was. I can't be broken like that again." I confessed.

She kissed the side of my head, "I promise I'm not leaving anymore."

I thought about it for a while, "Okay." I said quietly.

She pulled away from our hug to look me in the eyes, "You'll be with me?" She asked smiling.

I nodded, "But only if we can start fresh."

She smiled at me and got up. She walked a few steps away then turned around and walked back, "Hi, I'm Lauren." She said putting her hand out for me to shake.

I giggled and smiled back, "Y/n." I replied shaking her hand.
