-Sarah-
I walk into the kitchen the next day for breakfast and find Valkyrie already taking a chug from an expensive-looking bottle.
"Morning Valkyrie." I greet, grabbing some pop tarts from the cabinet before Thor can eat them all. She tips her bottle to me, returning the hello.
"Do you have any plans for today?" she asks, setting the bottle down. I think and shake my head.
"No, not really, why?" I can see the gears turning in her head as she takes another sip of alcohol.
"I wanted to train today, would you like to join?" she offers.
"Well I'm not sure I would be a good match for you, but why not," I answer, kinda excited to actually do something for a change.
"Great, meet me in the training room in 20."
I walk into the training room 20 minutes later wearing some leggings and a sports bra. Valkyrie is already warming up, wearing similar attire.
"Let's see what you got," Valkyrie instructs, taking a ready stance in the middle of the fighting mat. I join her and anxiously inhale before forming fists. She takes the first swing, aiming for my head and I duck on instinct, delivering a blow to her abdomen with my elbow. She grunts in surprise and kicks me away. I roll backward and stand up again right before she kicks me right in the face, sending me to the ground. I feel her coming close to me and I kick her legs out from under her, pulling her to the ground with me. I attempted to get on top of her and straddle her to the ground but she beat me to it. We both stop and I catch my breath.
"You're better than I thought you would be. I was still going easy on you though." Valkyrie states, offering me her hand, I grab it and she helps me to my feet.
"Yeah to be honest I've always known how to fight. But compared to you not so much. You're good, probably comes with being a Valkyrie."
"...Yeah, I guess so."
I train with Valkyrie for a while before we both get hungry and decide to head to the kitchen where Thor is already eating an enormous amount of food.
"Hey Thor," I greet. Valkyrie heads straight to the bar, grabbing another bottle.
"Lady Sarah, Lady Valkyrie, what have you been up to?" Thor asks, taking a break from his leftover pizza.
"We've been training," I answer. Valkyrie makes her way back over to us with her booze.
"Yeah, Sarah here kept up nicely," she states, giving Thor a look. Thor looks over at me with surprise.
"Really? It is very difficult to keep up with a Valkyrie. Even Loki and I struggle to keep up." Thor states, looking at me curiously.
"Yeah well, I'm still exhausted. Valkyrie is giving me too much credit, she still beat my ass." I say, earning a laugh from both of them.
"Well the Valkyrie are Asgard's most fierce and valiant warriors," Thor says proudly.
"I've heard." I say, turning to Valkyrie, "I would love to hear more about your life as a Valkyrie. It sounds so fascinating."
"I'm not a Valkyrie anymore, sorry to disappoint." she bids, not so nicely as she takes another swig of booze and walks away. I look at Thor.
"Did I say something?" I ask, feeling in the dark. Thor gives me a sad smile.
"No you said nothing wrong lady Sarah, she never talks about her past or the Valkyrie. It's a...how would you say it...touchy subject," he explains. I hum in understanding. "I must be going, Banner asked for me in the lab," he says, giving me a formal head bow and exiting the kitchen. It's so interesting that even on Earth he is still so formal.
I make a few rounds around the compound, procrastinating what I know I have to do. I've been trying to ignore this for so long.
I have to talk to Loki.
I've distracted myself long enough, I have to at least try to get through to Loki. Surely the last few months have meant something to him. Right?
I stop in the lab before talking to Loki. I have a few questions for Stark.
"Hey, Stark?" I ask, entering the lab, seeing Stark seated at a desk, focusing on something.
"Hm?" I walk closer to him and notice something on a separate table.
"Have you noticed anything I don't know...different about Loki?" I ask as I observe the scepter displayed on the table. The gem in the scepter seems to be glowing and the inside is...moving? I caress the stem of the scepter curiously.
"Not especially. He's been his usual psychotic, ass of a man." Tony retorts, looking up at me. "Don't touch that kid, it's dangerous," I mutter an apology and step away from the scepter.
"That's what Loki used in New York isn't it?" I ask. Stark nods.
"It hasn't been active for a while, but I wanted to keep an eye on it since Loki is back," Stark explains. I nod.
"I was about to go talk to Loki, see you later," I say, walking to the door.
"Be careful." Tony insists. I give him a sad smile.
"I will."
